Help with blog image display

  Hi, I am trying to set up my blog and tried a few free themes – Rowling, Orvis (Iam looking for grid layout). I created a new post and when I previewed the post, it shows 2 images, I am guessing one is a thumbnail and the below it the same image is the image associated with my blogpost. How do I get rid of the thumbnail. I only want one image as a start to my blog, not two of the same image. Thanks for your help.
