Help with canonical meta tag?
-
I am ramping up this blog to increase it’s visibility to the search engines. Currently when I run it through various Search Console (Google, Bing) or a site optimization assistant (onepage.org) I receive an error such as ‘We have found a Canonical Meta Tag, but it points to a different URL. This means that this page will not be indexable.’.
Also, the site description is identical to my site tagline which is not what I want.I am familiar with code and know how to add the correct tag as well as editing the description for the site… but I’m not sure how to edit it with wordpress.

Let’s start with the facts please. :)
(1) This is wordpress.COM support where we provide support only for blogs hosted by wordpress.com and you failed to provide the URL of your site so I cannot verify where it is hosted. Please provide the URL.
(2) If you are referring to a site hosted by wordpress.COM there is no metadata access. That access exists only on wordpress.ORG software installs and we do not provide support for them.

if and only if, you are referring to a wordpress.COM hosted blog and not to a wordpress.ORG software install read on, please.
re: WordPress.COM metadata access
There is no metadata access for us wordpress.COM bloggers and we cannot insert any code into the <header>. This is a multi-user blogging platform. Our blogs share a common architecture. We bloggers cannot access metadata on free hosted WordPress.com blogs. Note http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2013/03/22/seo-on-wordpress-com/What’s important are the keywords in the site title and the tagline:

It can take weeks for search engines to index your site content. Please read this support doc https://en.support.wordpress.com/search-engines/ so you know we have no control over search engines positioning or appearance in the SERPs (search engine page results).
To verify blog ownership of a WordPress.com hosted blog with the major search engines you must use this process > http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/
Note: Even if you do not verify the blog the content will be indexed by search engines so don’t feel panicky about this please.WordPress.com automatically supplies sitemaps for our blogs to search engines – we do nothing. http://en.support.wordpress.com/sitemaps/#xml-sitemaps-for-search-engines
To gain search engine attention, I recommend that you start publishing posts (not pages) https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ frequently. That’s because it can take weeks for search engines to index content in a new blog and/or to re-index content under a new URL.
