Help with church website

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello! My name is Elizabeth and I am pretty much computer illiterate. My church has a website that someone used to be the admin of. We no longer have any clue who that is, so I was going to attempt to be the admin person. But I don’t have any clue how to log into the site. I tried ‘forgot password’, but it says that my email account is not associated with the church site – which I totally get. Just thought I’d try anyway. I found out by typing ‘/admin’ after our church website address, it brought me here. That makes me happy because I have a blog page here! So…. is there an easy way for me to become the church site admin without creating a whole new page? Thank you!!!

  • Hi Elizabeth,

what is the address of that site?

You see, there is WordPress.com and WordPress.org and they are two different entities.

We, WordPress.com are a cloud-based platform where we manage WordPress sites, whereas WordPress.org is a stand-alone software that you can download and self-host with any other hosting.

You can find more details about WordPress.com and WordPress.org on this support page:

    https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

Here, on these forums, we can only help you if the site is hosted on our servers.

Hi! Thank you for your response. I had no idea that there was a .com and .org site. Our church’s page is: https://www.goodnewslutheranministry.org/st-mark-lutheran-church/

So I assume that means that I go to wordpress.org at this point? Lol Thank you!

  • Hi there,

That is correct. I checked your site and it appears you’re in the wrong forum. Your site is using the open-source WordPress.org software and you need to seek help at these forums:

    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

These forums are for WordPress.com hosted sites only. Since we do not have access to self-hosted WordPress.org sites, we are unable to provide any direct assistance to your issue. It looks like the site is hosted with Bluehost, so I would also reach out to them for help.

If you want to know more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org you can read this document:

    Thanks!
