Help with Classic Editor
-
Hi
I’m dyslexic and struggle with spelling. On another blog I have with WordPress I still use the Classic Editor, which works great with Grammarly (WordPress stopped it’s own spellchecker some time ago).
However, I started a new blog and by default it uses the Guttenberg block editor and it’s a know issue that Grammerly doesn’t work with Guttenberg. So now I have no way of speallchecking.
The support page says it will help with those bloggers who want to switch to the Classic Editor – can someone assist please? There is no setting in the 3 dots at the top of my pages or posts to switch to the classic editor, so it appears to not be an option on my new blog and the free blogs don’t support the Classic Editor plug-in.
Any help appreciated.

Many of the newest themes only work with the Block editor. Often those are the themes selected by default when creating a new site. Perhaps try a different theme with your site to see if the “three dots” option becomes enabled.

Thanks for the reply. However, I’m using Twenty Twelve which is an old theme and one I already use on another blog which still supports the Classic Editor :-(

What is the address of the site in question. If it is hosted here at WordPress.com the “more tools and options” button should be there top right when editing or creating a post. (If the site is hosted elsewhere and using the WordPress.org software you’d need to install the classic editor plugin).

It’s a wordpress.com site. The more tools and options button (3 dots at the top right) is there but no option to switch to classic editor.
The wordpress.com help page says:
“To switch to the classic editor, click on the ‘. . .’ settings icon in the upper right corner of the editing screen. Then, click on Switch to Classic Editor.
Newer sites don’t have this option by default, but if you do find you want to switch to the Classic Editor and don’t have the option, please do contact us and we can help you out!”

Note that
Switch to Classic Editor.
is very bottom right of all the options when you open that menu and can sometimes be hidden depending on the screen settings size of your browser.

I’m probably being really dense, but I can’t see it! I’ve put a screenshot on my blog of what I see under the More Tools & Options button. If I click Options right at the bottom it’s not in that menu either, it just contains lots of options to do with editing the blocks.

“Switch to classic editor” should be on the line below “options”. I’m curious to know if by creating a new account rather than adding a site to an existing account you aren’t given that feature anymore as WordPress.com does change with bewildering regularity. I see this thread has been tagged for staff assistance.

Hi there,
I have enabled the Classic editor on your site. Let me know if there’s anything else I can do for you. I’m happy to help.
