Help with columns
-
I’m trying to create two columns on my page. I’ve written the following HTML code, and when I switch the editor to Visual I get the two columns. However, when I view the page, it is only one column. What am I missing?
</div>
<div style=’width: 40%; padding: 0 10px 0 0; float: left;’>item 1
item 2
item 3
item 4</div>
<div style=’width: 40%; padding: 0 10px 0 0; float: right;’>item 5
item 6
item 7
item 8</div>
<div style=’clear: both;’></div>The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

See https://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/06/10/formatting-text-pt-1/ and scroll down to Two columns (or more)

Thank you, unfortunately I am having the same results. I pasted the HTML code directly from your article into a new page. When I switch from HTML to Visual, it looks exactly how I want it. But when I view the page it is back to one column. It doesn’t matter which view I use (PC, tablet or iPhone), it is always in 1 column.

Hello –
Thank you for the tag @timethief :)
There was a code update that temporarily affected the editor. Have you tried to clear your browser cache?
If the problem persists please let me know and share a link to the page that you’re working on.

Thanks for the suggestions and the link to more information, @timethief ! I was able to use your code to split content on my page into two columns, though both columns are more narrow than I’d like. It’s okay in the visual editor, but when I view it on the site, it looks like there’s a third, empty column to the right. (There used to be a search widget in that area, but I removed it.)
I’m pretty new to WordPress, so thanks again for your earlier advice!

Howdy @ ibex2015 – That third space to the right is your sidebar. This is a designated space for widgets on your theme. You can customize the pages with different layout options that your theme supports.
Check out the theme demo: https://shoreditchdemo.wordpress.com/
And setup instructions: https://wordpress.com/themes/shoreditch/
You can easily change your a theme with just a few clicks if you decide to use one without any sidebars.
