Help with crediting

  I have started off of the ChaoticSoul theme but have pretty much changed everything in it and would like to credit it instead to myself based off of ChaoticSoul theme but I cant figure out where to either have it a CSS from scratch or to get rid of his theme.

  The footer is part of the underlying code which you cannot modify. However you could hide the existing footer and then create a text widget saying something like “original theme by whoever modified by me” and style/position it so it looks like the normal footer.

  How do you hide the existing footer and create the text widget and style/position it? As a newbie with WordPress I would really appreciate it if you could elaborate.
