Help with custom domain

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,
I recently set up my ‘Personal’ plan and got a custom domain, ‘agapiscommons.com’. For the first couple of days it did say ‘we’re busy setting up your domain..etc’, however this default message has now gone, but I’m noticing something strange:
*When I access ‘customise’ option, my url points to ‘agapiscommons.wordpress.com’ and the changes I do there, don’t reflect to the my custom domain.

To make things clearer – I do some changes within the ‘customise this theme’ option, then I have another tab open, where I have my main domain open. I refresh the page to see the changes I did in the customizer, and I see a different version of the site.
How’s that possible, can someone help me??
Is there any additional steps I need to take, (DNS records for example), so I see the same version of my site both inside and outside the customizer? Or is it normal to see the ‘free’ domain when I’m in the customizer?
    Very confused…!

    Thank you in advance..

By the way I’m using the EDIN theme if this helps.

    Hi,
Could you please assist. I created a domain on WordPress but it ended up having the word WordPress in it. Who could I contact in order to help with my domain name?
    Liza

  • Hi there,

    @agapiscommons
, you have to publish your changes before they are live on your site. In the Customizer, click the gear icon next to the blue button at the top saying Draft Saved. Select the Publish option, and then click the blue button, which will now say Publish, to publish your customizations.

Please don’t post into completely unrelated threads started by other users. You can find information about adding a custom domain to your WordPress.com site at https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/. If you need more help with this, please start your own thread at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1

    Hey there kokkieh,

Thank you so much for your help. I didn’t think it was anything like that – really! I thought it was more complex. I can’t believe this rookie mistake – though not very obvious in the new interface, (that I haven’t used for a while).

How about when I press the ‘customise’ function and I see the url to its free version,i.e: mysite.wordpress.com is this a normal thing – do you know?

Thanks a lot for your help, this 2nd issue is not a biggie, more of a curiosity thing..:-)

No mistake, you just didn’t know. It’s a feature that was added not to long ago so that users can save customizations they are not yet done with and then publish them all at once.

By the way, any ideas about the 2nd ‘issue’ I described in my 1st thread:

**How come I’m seeing the ‘mysite.wordpress.com’ version when I’m at the back-end and not the ‘mysite.com’ version as in the front-end???

Just curious to find out how things work really..!

    Thank you…

How come I’m seeing the ‘mysite.wordpress.com’ version when I’m at the back-end and not the ‘mysite.com’ version as in the front-end???

Seeing your free address in the preview link is normal and not something to worry about —these changes are stored in the Customiser and haven’t been published to the site at that point. Visitors will only see the custom domain in their browser’s address bar when viewing the site.
