help with domain
-
Hi,
I recently bought a domain – http://www.thebellyblog.com. It is highlighted as my primary domain. When I enter it in the search bar nothing comes up. I tried clearing my cache and cookies.
What’s weird is it says it will expire next July – it doesn’t say ” active” I’m not sure why. Then when I typed it in the domain helper it says it already expired even though I just bought it a couple days ago.
I would appreciate any help – thanks!!!!

Hi there,
It looks like your domain is not pointing to WordPress.com name servers yet:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-helper/?host=thebellyblog.com
Please go to your domain registrar’s site and log into the control panel. You will need to update the name servers as below:
- NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
- NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
- NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
Please note that domain registration and mapping are separate. So while you have renewed it with your registrar, it does not mean it is mapping to us. The domain mapping to us is $13/year. After you update the nameservers, please purchase the Domain Mapping upgrade and you will be set!
For more information, please visit the help documentation provided by the registrar and our support page:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/
Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi Grace,
Thank you for that. I am still a bit confused though. I used to use yahoo, but I deleted it and I re-purchased the domain with WordPress for 18 dollars + the $8 to hide private info. Why does it say my domain has already expired? And why would I need to map my domain for another $13??
Thanks!

Hi Sara,
I’m so sorry, but our system has been having an issue with trying to register domains that are already taken. Our team is currently looking into the matter:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/domain-system-temporarily-unavailable-1?replies=1
Because of this I have provided you a full refund ($26) for the domain and it has been removed from your account.
I took a look at your domain and found that it is still registered with Melbourneit:
http://who.wildwestdomains.com/whoisstd.aspx?domain=thebellyblog.com&prog_id=wildwestdomains
And, as seen the nameservers are still pointing to Yahoo. It states that the registration is set to expire on: 2014-11-19, which is great news. Please note while we register new domains here at WordPress.com, we’re not able to accept incoming transfers of existing domain names. Therefore, we recommend that you keep the name registered at your current registrar. You can use the domain for your site here at WordPress.com by mapping the domain, as explained here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Please note that canceling a domain doesn’t mean that it will be up for re-registration right after. Sometimes it can take weeks, and in that time it can be sold to someone else. That’s why I highly recommend keeping your domain where it is and just point your nameservers to us and purchase the $13/year Domain Mapping upgrade.
I’m so sorry for the confusion. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
