Help with domain and name servers pointing please
-
Please excuse my inexperience and have patience with me. I started a site on wordpress.com and purchased a domain last week. After looking around a bit I decided it would be better if I moved to wordpress.org.
I contracted with hostgator and went through their quick install.
I am stuck in getting the name server on wordpress.com to point to the right place. When I try to log in to .org I keep getting taken to the .com site. I have gone into the domain editing and changed the name servers to the two that hostgator provided two separate times and gotten the screen that acknowledged that. This was yesterday, does it really take 72 hours to go into effect? I saw that is said sometimes just minutes. I’m stuck and can’t do any work on my new site until this gets figured out.
When I went back to the edit my domain page again today I noticed that the name servers say the wordpress.com site again instead of the hostgator ones.
Did I mess up and if so where?
I’m so new to this and it’s getting really confusing.
Thanks for any help! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Also, I have logged out and cleared the history and cache on my computer and the name servers are still coming up on my edit domain pages as the wordpress.com ones instead of the hostgator that I entered and ‘saved changes’ as.
Still just struggling to figure this out as a newbie. -

Updating… after many different attempts and trying every different way I could think of I think I may have finally gotten wordpress.com to acknowledge the change in name servers. Hopefully this will propagate correctly and won’t take another 72 hours.
If not I’m sure I’ll be back. lol -

24 to 72 hours is standard for changes to reach the far corners of the internet, during this period access to your site will be erratic due to caching issues and not every router on the internet updates at the same time
