    Hi carolateixido,

When you changed your DNS to the WordPress.com ones, the MX records, which determine where emails are sent to, weren’t updated along with them.

All you’ll need to do is add the MX records of your email host back using the Custom DNS feature:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/add-other-email/

Please feel free to post back if you’re still having trouble doing so!

Hi Valentine, sorry for my late reply…
I already changed the DNS and added the MX records with my email provider information, but it doesn´t work… what else could it be?
    Thanks!

Hi again Valentine. Could you please send me the WordPress.com DNS address? Maybe I wrote it wrong and that’s why it’s not working…

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

I just took a look at your MX records and they don’t appear to be correct. Could you please send over the MX records as they were given to you by your mail provider? Once I have them, you can change your domain name’s nameserver back to WordPress.com’s, which is:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM

    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM

    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

    Thanks in advance!

Ok, I will check them again with my provider. And sorry, I wasn’t clear on my question. What I needed to know is the IP address.
    I have this info:
    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    direccio’n IP: 72.233.2.58

    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    direccio’n IP: 72.233.69.6

    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
    direccio’n IP: 76.74.254.120

    Are these correct?
    Thanks!

We don’t really recommend that you point your domain via IP address. Our system is not designed to respond correctly and when we move your site on to a different server for whatever reason (such as load balancing, etc), the site will go down because the IP address has updated. This is why we provide such a comprehensive DNS customization system, so that you can set pretty much any DNS you could need and just point your nameservers towards us.

I understand, but NIC Chile asks for that info to be filled up.
Anyway, I changed the MX records. Please let me know if that’s ok.

    Thank you so much!

If NIC Chile is only asking for the A Record for each nameserver, they are:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM: 192.0.80.93
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM: 69.174.248.148
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM: 207.198.112.47

Your MX records are still not correct I’m afraid. You still need an A record (IP Address) from your mail provider in order to make this work. Did they provide you with an IP address for your mail server?

Your MX Record was also not formed quite right, (unless you want all mail to be addressed to (email visible only to moderators and staff) instead of (email visible only to moderators and staff)). I have corrected it but if you intended it that way I can change it back.

    Hi again @amightywp!
Here is the Ip address for my mail server: 200.73.112.57

Can you help me with that, please? Where should I put it?
    Thanks again!

    Hi carolateixido,

First, you’d want to create a subdomain on adesac.cl pointing to 200.73.112.57. You may wish to follow the steps in Add Email through other providers to edit your DNS records.

Let’s use ‘mail.adesac.cl’ as an example (you’re free to name it something else).

So you’ll have the following two records in your Custom DNS:

    • An A record for mail.adesac.cl pointing at 200.73.112.57.
    • An MX record for adesac.cl pointing at mail.adesac.cl, with priority 10.

Then, you’ll have to change your DNS at your registrar to the WordPress.com ones, since I noticed that you haven’t done so yet.

Please let us know if you’re still having trouble adding these records!

@carolateixido – Do you still need help after following valentine’s directions?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Thanks valentine and shawnajroberts.
I’m asking to my email provider to create the subdomain.
I already create an A record, so once I get the subdomain, I’ll change de DNS and should be ready…

    I’ll let you know!
    Thanks so much!!!
