Help with "expired" overlay

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I’m new to this and one of the blogs I follow now has an “expired” overlay that can’t be removed . It says something similar to this:

‘Oh no! This domain expired days ago!

Please contact the owner of this website and ask them to renew the domain. Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to view the site at this web address: .wordpress.com.’

The problem is when I use the alternative address, it just keeps looping back to the expired overlay.

Can someone explain to me what has happened to this blog and why I’m I seeing this? Thank you.

What happened is simple to exp[lain. The blogger who owns that site ignored all warnings to renew their domain mapping upgrade and allowed it to expire. No they must either attempt to renew see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/ or have the domain mapping removed by Staff.

@thistimethisspace Thank you! So there is no way to get the base blog then? It’s seems strange that the .wordpress.com. address does not work and just loops back to the domain.

I’m sorry but I don’t have the URL and I cannot try it myself. Would you post it please?

Hi @thistimethisspace. I was worried that for some reason I have been blocked by this blogger from seeing their blog. This expired ‘overlay’ does not in any way mean that does it?

that for some reason I have been blocked by this blogger from seeing their blog.

    Not at all

Without the URL we can’t say much, but usually if you click on the overlay (also should be an “X” on the overlay also to click on) the overlay should go away – but it will come back when you load a new page

@Auxclass – Thanks for your reply , but there does not appear to be an ‘x’ to click on. I’ve tried different browsers, but no luck.

@Auxclass- Actually, I take back, I just tried again and clicking on the screen makes it disappear.

As a follow up to this, the blog in question is no longer showing the expired overlay. Thanks for all the help.
