Help with home page of new theme

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve used WordPress a little bit before, but I bought a theme on WordPress.com for the first time – React – and I’m having trouble making it so it looked in the example.

Like in the example, I want a home page that’s a fairly static page with a photo to the right and text to the left giving my bio. Under that, I want thumbnails of projects with text for my portfolio. It’s fine with me if those thumbnails pull from other pages on the site (though I haven’t put other pages up yet).

But I can’t seem to add ANYTHING to the home page – not a nav on top right, not a large photo, not bio text….

    Help??

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your theme is a premium theme and we Volunteers answering questions on this forum have no knowledge of how they are designed to operate. When you purchased your premium theme what came with that purchase was support directly from the theme designer in the Premium Theme Support Forum. There is a link for the specific Premium Theme support forum under Appearance -> Themes in your blog’s Dashboard

The front page of every blog is by default the running page page for posts. Posts and Pages are different.

If you do not wish to have the posts on your blog appear on the front page of the blog then you have to create two pages. One will become your new static front page ie. Welcome or whatever you wish to call it. The other will become the running page for posts ie Blog or whatever you choose to call it. After you create them you designate the change here > Settings > Reading

    Set the homepage

Timethief, this is really helpful. Thank you.

I have an additional question. Right now for some reason, my blog is named jennifervanasco

I want it to be Jennifer Vanasco, which is what’s on my profile page. How do I change that? (thank you!!)

Go here > Settings > General and change the Blog Title and then click “save changes”. Some themes also allow for display of an optional Tagline as well. I don’t know if React does or not.

You’re in the wrong forum and need to be at WordPress.ORG for help with that.

I have the same problem but now i have solved it.
first go to dashboard>apprearnce>menus and then custom links. there you should add your hompage link and name it Home. My blog is http://stylespk.com and
    now it works.

You are posting to the wrong support forum. This forum is only for free hosted WordPress.com bloggers. You site is a self hosted WordPress.org install. The support forum for WordPress.org installs is here http://wordpress.org/support/
