Help with interactive local map website?

    Hi, I am trying to get a not-for-profit project underway, I live in an area that used to have lots of historical pubs. I would like to build a WordPress site, that the public can update like a Wikipedia site, with an interactive map showing the location of some of these pubs with a clickable link to go to another page with all historical data on a timeline or just a list..?

    Can someone point me in the right direction of an interactive map I could use and narrow down to show our local area only, and then have active links on some of the buildings with the ability to build an info page or pop-up?

    Or am I just dreaming….?

    Hello there,

    That does sound like a lovely idea, and personally, I think it would have legs for a local audiences or any visitors going to the area.

    It is quite bespoke functionality detailed there however, but probably not impossible.

    I would point you in the direction of finding a plugin that would do what you want it to do, and a good place would be Themeforest.

    These are third party, paid for plugins, but usually come with support and documentation to help you get set up.

    My advice would be to study the demos, and perhaps device a checklist of required features, and see if they’re present on the demo – mainly to avoid any custom development further down the line.

    To run one of these plugins on WordPress.com, the site would need to be on the business plan.

    Thank you for the link aleone89, some of these do look very good, the one I already had my eye on was this – https://codecanyon.net/item/progress-map-wordpress-plugin/5581719 – however, I was thinking I would like to input a few pubs myself and then have the ability for an end user to input their own pubs or update them (knowledge needs to be grabbed from various sources).

    Maybe I am asking too much of these plugins giving an end user that functionality, but even if it was an approval process??

    Another option is a formatted contact page that gives users a means of inputting or sending us the info, but this does mean we then have to do the addition work ourselves and isn’t as organic as I intended…. I was thinking of the wiki style.
