Help with my domian name

  • Unknown's avatar

I previously has a blog on Blogger (VodkaCalling.Com) that I paid for the domain name. As it was ready to expire, I paid for the name on WordPress. However, my blog is still coming up as vodkacalling.wordpress.com. I need to know how make it so it is vodkacalling.com, which is what I paid for.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I seriously love that domain name, so I understand why you’d want to keep it! :)

Anyway, you need to map a custom domain, here’s the how to: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Thank you. The only problem is my Blogger blog is already expired…..the only message I am getting under my domain name on WordPress is DNS NEEDS TO BE UPDATED. Have no idea what that means.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, I just looked at vodkacalling.com and it shows that it’s expired. However, it links to a page that indicates you might be able to renew that name through Google still. Here’s the help document it provides:

    https://support.google.com/a/answer/4377734

You’ll need to get the domain renewed before you can use it with your WordPress.com blog. Good luck!

But I already paid for it on WordPress. I have the receipt and all. This is very confusing.

    @vodkacalling
Although VodkaCalling.Com has been registered, it is not using WordPress.com nameservers.

We require that your name server configuration include only the following servers or their numeric equivalents:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
Your name servers are as follows:

    DNS1.NAME-SERVICES.COM
    DNS2.NAME-SERVICES.COM
    DNS3.NAME-SERVICES.COM
    DNS4.NAME-SERVICES.COM
    DNS5.NAME-SERVICES.COM
If you have access to change the nameservers for this domain, please remove all nameservers not on the required list above.

I’m guessing that was the fee for the domain mapping upgrade, which you still have to pay to map a domain. That just links a custom domain to your WordPress.com site.

However, you have to already own the domain name already to map it. You’ll have to see if you can renew it with Google to keep it. Usually after a grace period, registrars will sell expired domains at auction, where it may be very difficult to get back. I see that your domain recently expired, so I’d see if you can renew it through Google and then you can proceed with the mapping.

    @vodkacalling
    vodkacalling.com is hosted by eNom
    WHOIS
    IP Address: 64.74.223.38
    Name Servers:
    dns4.name-services.com
    dns2.name-services.com
    dns1.name-services.com
    dns5.name-services.com
    dns3.name-services.com

Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made it and the domain mapping purchase here every year.

Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually. In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from and it does not matter what that underlying .wordpress.com URL is. It does not have to match the domain URL. If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.

If you own a domain then see here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

I just renewed it from Enom. So I am guessing I have to wait about 24 hours before I can map it through wordpress?

Would I need to pay again, since I already paid once, but clearly messed that up.

What do you see at these two locations please:

Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/

Dashboard > Store > Billing History

    View Your Billing History

    Domain mapping 13.00

  • Unknown's avatar

If you do not see evidence of a domain mapping upgrade at the first link Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades
and you do not see evidence of a financial transaction at the second link
Dashboard > Store > Billing History
they your upgrade did not go through.

What’s required now is your patience as this thread is tagged for Staff assistance and Staff work through all forum threads tagged for their attention and through all email support tickets in chronological order based on datestamps and timestamps – first posted first served, as would be expected.

How long it takes to clear the threads and support tickets depends on how many Happiness Engineers are working on them at any given point in time. It also depends on how complex the issues in each thread and ticket are are.

Please don’t bump your thread here by posting into it again because it’s not in your best interest to post to it after it has been tagged for Staff help. Doing that moves the timestamps forward and it takes longer to get a response.

Okay, got it. I will be patient and wait for the staff. Thank you for your help.

Great and I am sorry this became such a time consumptive thread.

    hello:

thanks for your email. I followed your instruction, and picked the path of register a new domain (since I don’t own it and willing to pay for it).

Now it says “The domain name you entered is already mapped to a WordPress.com blog.” I know it is mapped to my own blog, because I paid $13 for the mapping.

It seems like I may have done it backward. I should have registered it first then map it.

Please let me know what should I do.

    thanks

  • I’m seeing vodkacalling.com point to a blogger site.

You did not register vodkacalling.com with WordPress.com. You purchased Domain Mapping for vodkacalling.com. Domain Mapping is the upgrade that you would purchase if you wanted to use a domain registered at another registrar (godaddy for example) with your WordPress.com site.

If you are still the registered owner of vodkacalling.com, you just need to log into your domain control panel wherever you registered the domain (which appears to be enom) and set your nameservers to point to WordPress.com as described here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

  • Take a look through that page and let me know if you have any further questions. I’ll be happy to help.

Thank you. I just renewed Vodka Calling on Blogger today because I did not want to lose the name, just not sure what to do now.

  • All you need to do it change your nameservers to point to WordPress.com. You may need to contact Blogger support for help with this.
