Help with my Freshy theme Ver 1.0
-
I want to change the body background color to #000000, but keep getting a weird side affect. WordPress Support told me to use #page as my CSS, but when I do that, I get a section of my main content turning black as well. I’m trying to add this CSS rule to the existing stylesheet for the Freshy theme version 1.0.
The background changes black, but I don’t want the weird main content section to turn black as well.
Thank you.

The blog linked to your username is displaying the Chaotic Soul theme and not the Freshy theme. If you are referring to another wordpress.com blog you want help with then please post the URL starting with http://

Please see > http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/
There is no official Staff support for the CSS upgrade, and precious little volunteer support therefore, you will have to be patient while you wait for a volunteer who does helps with CSS editing logs in, locates this thread, and helps you.

Thanks for posting the URL http://ageingman.wordpress.com/ it will be useful to the volunteer who eventually may have time to help you.

Try adding this code at the end and the blocky, black section will go back to having a white background:
#frame, .footer_content {background-color:#fff;}lh
-
Awesome! That took out the weird section. I do have a portion of what seems to be footer area remaining in F7F7F7 color. I assume a footer background adjustment would be in order?
Thank you very much.

I fixed the footer problem, but now I have a dangling box down by the footer area that I can’t seem to connect with anything. The color is either #777777 or #515151. Any ideas?
Thank you.

if you mean the grey box around your footer, it’s actually a background image so simply use
#footer{background:none;} -
Thank you, but that didn’t work. I can’t seem to isolate it in the CSS. There is only one CSS section dealing with the footer area and I’ve tried various things. I have been able to change the appearance of the footer section, but haven’t been able to make anything happen to the gray box behind the footer area.
It seems to be connected to another CSS section.

whetzelgroup,
You’re using the wrong selector. You have this:
.footer {...}when it should be this (just like trinovantes told you):
#footer {...} -

Well, bust my buffers, I tried it again and it worked this time. Go figure. Thanks everyone.
Now, if I can ask another question, I want to put a an ad for a book and a PayPal payment link in the sidebar area, but I don’t see a widget to accomplish that task. I tried the Image widget, but it won’t accept the code. Anybody have a suggestion?

Use a text widget. And use the basic HTML form of the code, don’t use any javascript or Amazon widget code; it’ll be stripped out for security reasons. Just use a link to the order page and an image and maybe some text. And it has to be YOUR book; WP.com does not allow people to be resellers or middlemen.
-
Okay, I’ll try this again. I did try the Text widget, but couldn’t ascertain how to go about it with all the different fields available. And I wondered about the reseller/middleman thing.
Thank you.

Text widgets have 2 data fields.
(1) Title of the widget.
(2) The data.As raincoaster has stated above provided you do not enter restricted code into a text widget the software will not strip it out. See > http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/

You’re welcome. The tagline on my first wordpress.com blogging tips blog was “learning wordpress blogging one error at a time”. :)
