Help With My "Static" or "Home Page" design

I am a teacher and media professional and a HUGE fan of what you folks do. I have my students use WordPress – and our university does as well. With that said, I am wondering if in my “Blissful Blog” at http://realliveangels.wordpress.com I can display the latest POSTS in the main column and still have the righthandside available for the widgets? Right now I have used a static home page with “About” info, used a blog list widget and then duplicated my posts as PAGES in the top pulldown, but I think it still confuses people who want to just read the blog directly. Any Advice? Brent Weber

Yes. Ditch the current setup because you’re right, that IS confusing. On the Settings->Reading page you can choose what page your blog opens on. Just choose the blog posts page instead of the static page. That will not affect your widgets.

Thanks for the response. I was hoping there was a way to maintain the two-column setup when the Posts are the main page. It doesn’t allow me to alter the template for the Posts. I was hoping I could maintain the sidebar as the posts appear. Bummer. I have been trying to figure out how to do this for some time.

I’m not following you. Use the Recent Posts widget and the Pages widget in the sidebar. Do you mean you want two columns of content, PLUS a sidebar? Like a newspaper column?

    NO sorry.
Sidebar has a variety of small items, photos, subscription buttons, etc. – (currently including recent posts, but I’d like to NOT have them there, I’d rather have them in the main column).

I’d rather people see my BLOG in the main column of the home page, and STILL have a sidebar, since it has widgets that “call to action”. The option for the writing of a new Post defaults to widescreen – and there is not an alternate template for POSTS, only for PAGES. (Sorry about the caps – not shouting, just for clarity.)

    Thanks for your help!

it might make sense if you go to realliveangelsmovie.com …
The pulldown menu obviously shows PAGES for the same blog entries that currently are listed as a blog WIDGET on the right.
