Hello there,
You cannot post to pages. Pages are static and sit outside the blog structure. With wordpress, you use categories to organize posts into subjects and then you can add those categories to your navigation using a custom menu.Staff have provided help for those who want to structure their blog like a website. > http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/
What’s critical is:
(1) a clear comprehension of the differences between pages and posts > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
(2) a clear comprehension of the fact that there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page. But we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.We organize our posts by assigning Categories to them. When we publish a post it automatically appears on the running page for posts and also on the Categories pages and Archives pages. Note: There must be one published post in each Category in order for there to be anything to display.
A custom menu allows you to display Categories with drop-downs to sub-categories in tabs along the horizontal navigation where normally only Pages tabs are displayed. If you wish you can also include Pages with drop-downs to sub-pages and/or custom links in your custom menu as well. You are in charge of what appears in a custom menu. You choose the order in which to display any and/or all the foregoing in your custom menu. You choose which to display and which to hide. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus

thanks! So to link my top navigation buttons into individual posts, I have to create categories? How do I link these categories to the top navigation? I tried to create a ‘press’ category but I tried to add a post and have it appear in just the ‘press’ section but it did not work. I need to have different sections Home, Press, Live on Oxygen and Shop. I want to be able to post things in each different section.
Thanks!

This is a page. No posts there, as timethief explained.
http://oxygenboutique.wordpress.com/press/This is a category. As you can see, it contains posts. This is what you should add in a custom menu.

thanks. my knowledge is quite basic of how to do things like this. I want to be able to post individual posts into:

I am not sure how.
I also want to add posts into:
-
Again: we cannot add posts to pages. There’s another way of achieving what you are trying to do. I suggest you read one more time the valuable information timethief gave you before we go any further.

Categories can only be assigned to post, not pages. Categories do not display until there is one published post in a Category. Please go here and read the whole section slowly and view the images Staff provided there. > http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus
add categories to custom menu -
ok, i have read this and attempted to do it but I don’t want the categories on the side like this, I want them on the top navigation so that people can click on ‘home’ and posts will appear, click on ‘press’ and these posts appear and then ‘live on oxygen’ different ones. I don’t want them to appear in the main section, just each individual ones that I assign it to.
-
1. By removing the Categories widget from the sidebar you will not have categories displaying in it. > Appearance > Widgets
2. By following the instructions I posted above the categories will display in the top navigation bar of your theme.
I don’t want them to appear in the main section, just each individual ones that I assign it to.
Also note that if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page for your site, and also create a “blog” page for your posts to display on.

What’s happening here is that I understand you but you do understand this:
There is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page by using categories in the custom menu we can work around that. But there still must be a dynamic page for your posts to display on. You cannot eliminate it. -
ok I see what you are saying here. So I can’t have individual posts going into individual categories to appear at the top navigation like a website? I think i used to use wordpress.org and was able to have press at the top click on it and it used to display all of my press.

SIGH … Once you actually have published posts, not pages that actually have the Categories assigned to them, and if you followed the instructions they will display under those Category tabs in the to horizontal menu. However, you cannot eliminate the single running page for posts.

That’s going to happen after you follow the instructions here http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus and here http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-category-pages-to-your-menu and create a custom menu.

There are no posts on the blog. posts and pages are different and pages are not categories either.
1. Delete the “Press” page you created.
2. Create a Category for “Press” in your dashboard.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/#adding-categories-via-your-dashboard
3. Create a post with the Press category assigned to it and publish it.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/#adding-categories-with-the-categories-module
4. Create a custom menu and include the Press category in it.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#creating-a-custom-menu
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-category-pages-to-your-menu
Add Pages and sub-pages and Custom Links to your custom menu if applicable.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-pages-to-your-menu
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-custom-links
5. Save the custom menu.
6. Refresh your browser so that it isn’t possibly pulling a cached page, and view your new custom menu.
