Help with pointing my Wix domain to WP!

    Hi!

To make a long story short… I have a Wix domain that I need help with pointing from Wix to my WordPress blog (I was planning to build my website at Wix, but realized too late that WP is better for me). I’ve probably been reading all the documents and texts about this already, and it seems that the only option I have right now is to map the domain (I would try to transfer it instead if it didn’t have that notorious “60 days lock”).

So, I have bought a WordPress premium plan, and I have bought the free “Domain Mapping” thingy as well. The problem for me starts here, as I can’t figure out how to change the DNS settings at Wix. I cannot edit the name servers, they are locked. So I cannot add those 3 lines “ns1.wordpress.com”, “ns2.wordpress.com” and “ns3.wordpress.com”. I can only edit “A (host)” and “CNAME”, the latter one I changed mostly because I have no idea what I’m doing but at the picture below you can see how it looks like (I covered some numbers (IP address?) just in case). Anyway, I researched further and it seems that since I cannot edit those name servers, I need to write some kind of URL in the “A (host)”? I saw in another post here at the forum made by another user years ago where they requested one from you.

As I already wrote, I have never done this before so I’ve been googling and searching like crazy after detailed information on where to write those 3 lines (ns1, ns2, ns3…) since I cannot edit the name servers. I was planning to contact Wix to ask them to simply change the DNS settings for me, only to discover that they do not offer the same customer service like you do.

Help much appreciated, and thank you so much for taking the time to read!

    Hi,

    Try this first.

    Import from Wix
Our Wix Importer is really easy to use. All you have to do is provide your site’s web address (called a URL). When the import is complete, you’ll have a site that’s pre-filled with your content & ready to be your new home on the web

    https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-from-wix/

Here is a support document that tells how to map a domain to WordPress.com that might be useful.

If you need more help please reply here.

    Hello,

Thank you for your reply, but I’m not sure how you mean that the Wix Importer can help me map my domain? As I wrote in my post above, I cannot edit the name servers so I will probably need a URL from WP?
Well, I don’t know what’s needed in order to solve my problems that I have already described in my original post which is why I think I need professional help.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I have asked for a staff member to help.

Please wait for them to reply.

What is the URL of your Wix site? A staff member may want to know.

The Wix importer would move the content of your site to WordPress.com not help with your other issues sorry for the confusion.

  • Hi there!

According to Wix, you should be able to add an A record by following this guide:

    https://support.wix.com/en/article/adding-or-updating-a-records-in-your-wix-account.

The A records you need to add are these:

    192.0.78.24
    192.0.78.25

In addition to this linked guide, Wix also requires you to add a CNAME record for www pointing to @.

If you need more help, remember that with your plan, you can access Live Chat directly via https://wordpress.com/help/contact. That way, you can get help faster.
