Help with regaining access to account/site—Possibly hacked

Hi all—I am a low-key (in other words, infrequent ) blogger. I use a free account, my blog is not monetized, and I don’t log in all that frequently these days. I am (or should be) the only person with access to the account. I use Jetpack in my phone but regrettably never got around to setting up 2-factor authentication.

I tried to log in this week and couldn’t. I realized something was wrong when I tried to reset my password and didn’t receive a link to do so. I have reached out to WordPress support. They confirmed that someone has changed the email address on the account. I never received an email to confirm a change to my account which is odd—most websites send a notice when you change anything about your profile.

So far I have been unsuccessful in getting help regaining and resetting access to my account. I do not have the original URL confirming the account creation (over a decade ago!) and because I use the free version I don’t have any transaction IDs. In other words, I don’t have a way to go through the automated resetting process, but that is what the support emails keep telling me to do.

Do I have any options? If not, how do I get WordPress to just take down the whole blog? It makes me really sad to think I may not have my blog anymore.

(For purposes of this post I have created a second account—I could not log in to even post to the forums from my original account.)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

What is the URL of the site you are trying to regain access to?

I never received an email to confirm a change to my account which is odd—most websites send a notice when you change anything about your profile.

We would definitely send a confirmation email for this. So, it would be odd if you did not receive one.

If you could please fill out our account recovery form, our account recovery team will be happy to look further into this for you and assist you in regaining access to your account.

If you ever had a paid subscription under the account, you can use the transaction ID on your bank statement from when you purchased the upgrade to submit the account recovery form.

If you are unable to fill out the form, please contact our Account Recovery Team directly at passwordhelp@wordpress.com

Please visit our support page for more information on recovering your account.

    Thanks!
