Help with setting up new site, transferring domain name and email from Talk Talk
-
Hi. I currently have a very old and outdated website, hosted very expensively by Talk Talk. I want to keep the domain http://www.grayfoxgardening.co.uk and the work email: (email visible only to moderators and staff). But I want to restart the whole design of the website with WordPress. Which order do I do things in? WordPress is saying I can Connect my domain, but cannot transfer it. But if I connect my rubbish old one, does that mean I can then use it on a new wordpress site, using garyfoxgardening.co.uk? Thank you
I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

Hi there!
WordPress is saying I can Connect my domain, but cannot transfer it. But if I connect my rubbish old one, does that mean I can then use it on a new wordpress site, using garyfoxgardening.co.uk?
That is correct. We’re unable to accept transfers in of .co.uk domains, so you would need to keep the domain registered where it is now and just use the domain connection you set up for your site.
You would want to get your site set up here first, then set the
garyfoxgardening.co.ukdomain as your primary domain when you’re ready to launch your site, then switch your domain nameservers at your domain registrar to point to WordPress.com. This page should help you walk through those steps:https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/
For the email, that would need to be set up again here at WordPress.com after you switch your domain nameservers by setting up the Professional email service:
https://wordpress.com/support/add-email/adding-professional-email-to-your-site/
NOTE: Switching email hosting could see you experience some downtime when your hosting is switching over and you may lose some emails. If you get regular emails to that address, you should notify senders that your email will be unavailable for a few days once you switch things over.
I hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other questions. :)
