Help with shifting images after changes…

We’ve set up “back issues” of our online publication, with the most recent at the top. We now want to move the top issue to the first top left spot in the list below (with an appropriately sized image to match the others). We’ve tried this several ways, but no matter what, it seems to throw the images below into chaos, with scattered empty spaces.
Here’s how it looks now:

I’m surprised they did line up so far! It’s purely a coincidence that they did, because the files you have uploaded are a bewildering variety of pixel dimensions, and those different dimensions aren’t all the same aspect ratio (twenty different dimensions, six different aspect ratios). So when you constrain the inserted versions to the same width by selecting the thumbnail option, the heights vary, some of them so much that the images can’t fit without throwing some other image out of place.
You need to edit all the images in an image editing application and resize them so they all became the exact same pixel dimensions. And the pixel dimensions should be those you want on the page, because when you upload huge originals but display smaller versions you get worse quality, your page loads slower, and you waste your storage space.
If you don’t want to do this, you can modify the coding in the HTML editor to make all the thumbnails same size. Let me know if you’re interested in this (but the first solution is better, for the reasons I explained).
