Help with Soundcheck theme

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi
I am using the Soundcheck theme. The name of my site is: curtsassakmusic.com

I have a few questions. WordPress is great, but doesn’t seem to be too user friendly

    1. My tagline and site title is not appearing on my site.
Please note that it DOES appear on the dashboard

    2. If you look at the soundcheck theme when browsing through the themes you can see three columns of widgets. I cannot figure out how to get a column of widgets added to the right hand side

    2. Loading pictures:
-If you look at my site, you will see a small portrait picture towards the top left of the site of two fire hands playing guitar. I can’t figure out how to change that one
-I want to change the background to a picture. I know how to do this, but what I cannot figure is this:
When I upload a picture, I don’t get a picture spread out among the whole site. I get a bunch of pictures as if it is a photo reel, which I do not want

Lastly, what is a hero slide and how can I use it?

I have tried searching for some of these answers but gave up. I was using blogspot before, which is super user friendly, but WordPress has fantastic themes so I guess it is a learning curve for me

Your help would be appreciated as I need to get this site up and running soon

    Sincerely

    Curt

    HI Curt!
Welcome to WordPress.com! There is a bit of a learning curve when you switch platforms, but you’ll be a pro in no time. :)

    1. My tagline and site title is not appearing on my site.
Please note that it DOES appear on the dashboard

You’ll see on the Soundcheck Demo (https://soundcheckdemo.wordpress.com) that the tagline will not display for this theme. However, your site title should. I do see that the site title you entered, “curtsassakmusic” does appear on your site currently. Is this working as you wish?

    2. If you look at the soundcheck theme when browsing through the themes you can see three columns of widgets. I cannot figure out how to get a column of widgets added to the right hand side

To add your third column to your homepage, go to: Appearance → Customize. In the right-hand menu, click Widgets: Home Column 3. Currently, the Music Player widget is in that column, but it’s not appearing on your side because it has not been configured. However, you can click Add a Widget and experiment with installing new ones. That way, you’ll see how the third column should appear on your home page.

-If you look at my site, you will see a small portrait picture towards the top left of the site of two fire hands playing guitar. I can’t figure out how to change that one

To add a new logo or image in that area, in your Dashboard click Appearance → Theme Options. Click the little down arrow next to “Logo.” Upload or link the image file in that box.

When I upload a picture, I don’t get a picture spread out among the whole site. I get a bunch of pictures as if it is a photo reel, which I do not want

It sounds as if you’re installing a Photo Gallery instead of a single image. Here is the support document that will assist in adding Images to your site:

Lastly, what is a hero slide and how can I use it?

You will find the instructions about how to set up your Hero Slide, as well as many other features of your Premium theme on the Soundcheck Support Document:

In the future, I believe you may also find this resource invaluable.

    Soundcheck Support Forum:

Other users of your theme, as well as the themes developers, take part in supporting questions and requests you may have.

I hope all the information above is helpful. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Cheers!

Hello again, Curt! So happy to help!

One thing. I found when I tried to change that picture, it still didn’t upload. I’m not sure what is going on.

I do see a new photo populating that space, so you may have figured that out. If not, please let me know where/when the problem is occurring and I can help further.

Thanks so much. Best of luck!

    Hi

You have been a big help, thank you. I figured out what I was doing wrong with the picture thing.

I did check the forums and will start using them. Thank you again.

I’ll ask you what I believe is the last question for now.

I want my site to play music when you get on the site. As I understand it, I have that ability with the Soundcheck theme.

It says in one place that you need a mp3 file, but then in another it states it will take a number of files.

I have 3 demos I recorded of myself playing music and they are in WAV format. I cannot get them converted to mp3 for whatever reason

Can I use them as WAV, and if so, how?

    Thank you again!!!!

Hello again! To use Soundcheck’s audio features, MP3 formatting is required.

If you don’t have conversion software on your computer, you can use an application such as iTunes to do the job:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1550

If this won’t work for you, you can upload WAV files and play them in the WordPress.com standard audio player, but they won’t be autoplay, or as fancy as Soundcheck’s offerings. Still, those directions can be found here:

    Working With Audio

Please let me know if I can answer any other questions! Thank you very much.

    Hello

Well, this is frustrating. I finally converted the audio files to mp3’s, but when I try to add them as an audio file in a post, it says “format is not supported.”
It said this for a WAV file and mp3.

I want it so when people go on to my site, they hear music. Am I doing something wrong?

    Curt

Hi Curt, please keep an eye out for a personal email from me. When you respond, attach the WAV and the MP3 files with which you’re having trouble. I will test those files for you.
    Thanks so much!
