Help with templates pls

    HI,
How do i have different templates for different topics. I had 2 different templates about my experience with Crohn’s disease and the other one was about the diet. But when people view the page, both the topics are appearing under one template and on the same page. I would also like to write about a different topic now and would like to choose a different template. Please help , Thank you !

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hello there!

Every WordPress.com website can have only one template/theme activated. It’s not possible to have two templates running at the same time on the same website.

I can suggest you two solutions:
    – Creating two different websites/blog that you can link so to get a sense of continuity between them;
    – Migrating your content to the self-host WordPress.ORG platform. You won’t be able to activate two templates at the same time too, however you will be having more freedom in the templates’ customisation. That may require a little bit of coding skills.

I hope I understood what you meant. Please let me know if you were after something else, I’m glad to figure out another solution for you. Cheers :)

    Hi,
Thank you for your help. yes u got it right .I am definitely not in to coding and stuff :-)…may be I shall try the first option?
So,how do I create 2 different blogs and link them? Is there a link that I can follow? Or should I open up a totally new blog in word-press?
    Thanks
    Vj

  • Hello Vj,

You can create another blog and add it to you current account: https://en.support.wordpress.com/create-a-blog/#adding-a-new-site-to-an-existing-account.

This way you’re going to have two different ‘hubs’ for your different areas/topics, which means and each blogs will have a specific personal template. Moreover, you’re going to be the administrator of both blogs by using the same account, so it’s going to be easier for you to switch from one blog to the other without logging out/logging in.

To link the blogs to each other an make this connection visible also to your readers, you can pick two themes with top navigation, then you can create a custom menu and put the link to the other blog in using the “custom link” feature, as explained here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/.

Another option is also to put a RSS Widget in the Sidebar to show the latest Posts from your other blog: https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/rss-widget/.

I hope this info is useful to you. Let me know if all is clear. Happy to clarify questions/doubts if you have any. Cheers!

Sorry, I have an other query. There are currently no comments under the page but there are plenty of comments in my FB page. And I have linked the account to my Fb page anyways. Is there a way the comments can be displayed under the blog page itself or does it only appear when someone choose to provide comments below the page.

    Thanks

  • Hello!

I’m afraid this kind of comments migration is not possible. You may want to ask your readers on Facebook to leave a comment on your blog, though. They could also use their Facebook accounts if you enable the Jetpack Comment feature.

HI, I need an other help please.
In my blog page, I have created a facebook icon for people to follow(through dashboard, widget etc). But when I click on the icon, its not taking to fb page. Rather its displaying a message like ,the page has been removed etc.
Also my FB page is just a personal one. Its not specific to the blog. I have just shared the WP blog link in my personal page to share with my friends.
Do I have to make a specific page on FB that relates to blog? I am not a professional blogger or so.The blog is mainly just my personal one. How do I invite new people to follow my blog?Is it possible for you to visit my blog page and suggest some ideas?
    Thank you!

  • Hello @thegreatmystic!

The Facebook widget works only with Facebook Pages I’m afraid.

However, if you don’t want to create a brand new Facebook Page but you prefer to use your Facebook profile, you may want to try the Facebook Profile Badge. Full instructions on how to create it are listed here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/facebook-integration/facebook-badge/.

Hope this is all clear! If you get stuck at any step, just let me know and I’ll be glad to help. Cheers!

    Hi,
I will try it out. Btw is there a way how ppl can comment on my blog page?Looks like they need to sign up? A lot of them might be lazy to signup isn’t it? So is there a way of them commenting without signing up?
    Thanks

  • @thegreatmystic,

If you’re not logged in with any WordPress.com account, when you go for commenting any of your posts (you have to enter in a specific blog post for doing it), the comment box will ask you to log in with a social network account (WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, G+ etc), or to enter an email address and a name for leaving a comment.

This is a screenshot that shows your current comment box if you’re not logged in with any of the mentioned accounts: http://imgur.com/ngemu0E

You can find your comment settings under Dashboard>Settings>Discussion – they’re set correctly at the moment, but feel free to experiment on it to find the better set up for your comments :)

Hope this helps! If you have any other questions or doubts, please let me know, happy to help. Thanks!
