Help with theme functionality
-
Hi,
I’m looking for theme that has 3 things in particular:
– allows for a home page that is separate to the blog postings.
– allows for 3 items in the menu under a header image but will also allow drop down options from those items , i.e. I’d like one of the menu options to be “Travel advice” and when that is hovered over, or clicked, options to select advice broken out onto different pages to be visible.
-Preferably the template would allow for a large header image on the blog posts page.Is anyone able to help with advising a theme that would allow me to do this?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thank you
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
You can browse WordPress.com’s available theme’s at theme.wordpress.com. Click Find a Theme to filter the themes and find the things you’re looking for.
When hovering on a theme, click on it’s name to view it’s support doc which lists all of it’s features. You can also demo the theme by clicking Live Demo.

All WordPress sites can do this. Check out the guide to creating a static homepage and a separate blog page elsewhere:

The menus in many themes support a drop-down sub-menu.
The best way to find a theme that meets your needs is to look at the demos, as elzrjose suggested above.
One theme that comes to mind that I think meets all your requirements is Kelly. It supports a custom header, under which it displays a menu which supports a drop-down sub-menus:

Thank you both, much appreciated. I looked through the templates before, and remember looking at Kelly, but couldn’t work out how to get the drop downs so the additional information you provided above on how to do it in that template will be really helpful.
Thanks

There are two ways to get a drop-down menu in Kelly and other themes that work like Kelly.
If you stick with the default menu, which adds new pages as you create them, any sub-pages you create will be added as sub-menu items automatically.
For example, let’s say you make a page called South America, and then you make a page called Brazil that’s a sub-page of South America, by choosing South America as its parent page from the Page Attributes box. You would then get Brazil as a sub-menu item below South America, automatically. You can learn more how to make sub-pages here:
The second way to get a drop-down menu in Kelly and similar themes is to create a custom menu, and manually add sub-pages in the menu. Here’s a full guide to doing that:
If you get stuck along the way, just let me know where and I’ll be glad to help.
