Help with URL

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

I was in the middle of reshuffling my URLs for the three blogs I own (hosted on wordpress – not paid for yet) and I changed addresses from bloodsuckingsnowdemons.wordpress.com to meanderingarchives1.wordpress.com to try and merge two blogs together. Now I’d like to change it back to bloodsuckingsnowdemons.wordpress.com a URL which I should own since I don’t think I asked for it to be deleted. There is nothing on that URL now either, so it should be fine?

If I could just be pointed in the right direction for this to be changed back, much appreciated!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

    bloodsuckingsnowdemons.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this site.

Unfortunately, that blog can’t be reused, even though you were the one who originally created and deleted it. It’s the policy of WordPress.com not to allow blog names to be reused: https://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/

No way?! So bloodsuckingsnowdemons can’t be used by anyone, including me? I should just create a new name all together?

That’s right, it’s not available to you or anyone else, now. Yes, you can create a new name.

If you wanted to go the paid route, bloodsuckingsnowdemons.com is available. You could register that ($18/year) and point it to any blog you have. The *.wordpress.com name that it’s mapped to wouldn’t matter since nobody would see it but you. Here’s the guide for that if you’re interested: https://en.support.wordpress.com/add-a-domain/

Thanks for that. If I do buy a domain and make it bloodsuckingsnowdemons would I be able to change the domain, let’s say boringnothingness (as an example)? Are you paying for the domain for for the domain to specifically be bloodsuckingsnowdemons?

  • Unknown's avatar

You pay for a specific domain. If you buy bloodsuckingsnowdemons.com and a month later decided you’d rather use boringnothingness.com, you’ll have to pay for that new one (if it’s available). You couldn’t just swap them for free. The payment lets you use the domain for a year, then you’d need to renew to keep using it.
