help with URL

I’m wondering if you can help me. I’m beginning to get followers on my book review blog. I noticed that they are all young people, which is wonderful to help keep this 60 year old blogger young at heart.
Still, I’m wondering how I can attract older book review bloggers. I usually write on historical fiction which should attract some closer to my age.
Can you tell me what I need to do to get a broader audience?
Thanks,
Martieps: Is Rachel still around? She was so very good.

Hi @neesrecordaolcom, I hope you don’t mind me jumping in to help. Rachel is still around but on another team :)
How to attract older followers — that’s a great question! I would focus on using appropriate tags and categories (no more than 15 total per post) , but you might try a few other things too:
– If you’re on Facebook or Twitter, go ahead and reach out to your friends there to let them know about your site
– Try getting to know some other bloggers by following their sites and interacting with them on their posts. Not in a spammy way of course, but if you’re interacting with folks you’re genuinely interested in, chances are you’ll find some folks who are genuinely interested back.
We have more tips here:

Hi Supernovia…thanks for jumping in…I have a strong following on Goodreads and added the widget….i post on FB, twitter, tumblr…i am very new to blogging…my tags are usually about the book…i have tried reaching out by following and commenting to other bloggers and literally can only find young people…young is great but it is hard to relate to a 16 year old from another country.
1) i was wondering if this is because WP.com is a free site & often the young, alas like my 60 yr old self, cannot afford to pay to own a site…is that a possibility on why I seem to attract youngsters?2) my genres are historical fiction and women’s literature and classic literature…as i said i usually just add in tags about the book…can u suggest other tags to find other older bloggers?
thanks again,
Martie -
It could also be a matter of who uses that particular feature. We don’t collect ages so I don’t know who that would be. But I can say some of us millenials were basically marinated in tech from the day we were born, so that could be a factor.
Have you thought about looking through tags to see if you can find older bloggers? Something like these may work. You’ll probably sift through articles ABOUT boomers, but who knows:
https://wordpress.com/tag/boomers
https://wordpress.com/tag/baby-boomersI can’t think of other tags off the top of my head. Do try to only follow and interact with those you’re genuinely interested in.

Hello again Supernovia…this time i have two questions:
1a) why am i not receiving notifications when those i follow post something?
1b) i don’t want to get notifications from all as it gets overwhelming, but how do I select a few to allow an email notification to be sent to me when they post?…i thought i did this under “manage” but as usual i messed something up.
2) I noticed that i often will get a “like” immediately (within seconds) after i write and post a book review…is that a coincidence or can some set their WP blog to immediately “like” without even looking at what i actually wrote?
hope all makes sense, happy Tuesday,
Martie -
Can someone please let me know why I am no longer receiving email notifications from those that I follow? Thanks,
Martie -
Hi @neesrecordaolcom, my apologies; I thought I’d replied sooner.
You’ve blocked all email from us. Please consider unblocking here:
https://wordpress.com/me/notifications/subscriptionsYou can also manage notifications for individual subscriptions here:

Pls forgive my consent questions, try to think of me as a 101 blogger. Is there a way to receive email notifications from just certain blogs that I follow under “Manage”?
-
@neesrecordaolcom absolutely.
1) Unblock us so we can send some emails
2) under Mange, click on a site to change its notifications
Let us know if you need more help :)
-
Hmm I thought I did unblock. Can u go into my site to check? Sorry I’m really not good at this at all. Sent from my iPhone
-
@neesrecordaolcom yes, you’re unblocked.
Try going to https://wordpress.com/me/notifications/subscriptions and checking your default setting though. When you follow a new site, do you want to automatically get instant emails, or only for those sites you choose? Consider setting the default accordingly.
Then go through the sites you follow:
https://wordpress.com/following/editClick the arrow on the left next to any site you need to adjust. Then toggle emails on or off.

Supernovia -i’m near tears and almost ready to give up….now my bell on my blog is no longer turning orange when I have notifications…what am i doing f*#%ing doing wrong? – Martie
-
Hi Martie, is that still happening? I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong — that isn’t something you have control over, so if it is still happening, let me know and we’ll have our team take a look.
I did have had to log in as you a few times throughout this thread to check your settings, hopefully I didn’t accidentally bump the bell (turning off recent notifications) when I was in there that last time.
