Help with wordpress transfer/migration for new website
-
I am working with a client who has a current live wordpress website. I have designed a new wordpress site for them using a different/test URL and it’s hosted by a different host company. I would like to transfer my (newly designed) wordpress site to their account so they can have this as their new website, using their business URL. Can I do this via ‘blog transfer?’ If so, what will happen to their current wordpress site design? Will they still have access to it? Thanks!

Hi there,
If the site is hosted somewhere else, then you built it using the open source WordPress software found on WordPress.org. It is not possible to transfer that entire site to WordPress.com as-is, as we don’t provide FTP access on WordPress.com that will allow you to upload that site’s files directly to the server.
The only option we offer is to import the content of the site, i.e. posts, pages, comments and media files. No settings, theme or configurations can be imported that way.
If your client’s WordPress.com site is on our Business Plan, then it might be possible to help them import the site using a migration plugin, but you’ll need to contact us in live chat as the user who owns the site and the business plan upgrade so we can guide you through the process, as not following the correct steps can completely break the site.
