Helping readers download my MP3 files

    How can I make it easy for readers to download the recordings (MP3 files) that I post? There’s no copyright involved; I recorded them. Some are quite long (half-hour tapes). My RealPlayer will not download from the player on the site, and linking to the address of the file gets only a dark page, not even a functioning player. Thank you for help!

  • You can embed audio files following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/

    Thanks, I can embed files well enough, since I have the upgrade, of course. But I can’t make it easy for visitors to download the files for themselves. The files play, but links to them don’t work to permit them to be downloaded by other people. Is this an intended feature, or am I missing something? I want people to HAVE what I recorded, if they want it, and the download has to be simple– just copying the file, no player involved. Just as if it were being sent as an email attachment. So how to make this happen?

    Please take a look at the steps in this guide as it explains on how to create download links in your post or pages.

    Thank you, I have done that, but again, when I click the download link I created according to the instructions, I just get a completely black screen with an audio player visible for half a second, then it reduces to one white “Play” triangle, and when I click that it turns gray, but nothing else happens: no play, no download option. This process works for text and images, but apparently not for audio! What to do?

  • Would you please give us a link to the post or page where this isn’t working for you?

    Can do, but it is still a private site, you might just email me at catbird25/gmail, and I can point you to it. I have only one mp3 file up now, but expect the problem to be the same for others, not so?

  • I can actually view then private site. Feel free to leave the link here and I’ll check it out, or just tell me the title of the blog and the title of the post or page.

    I gave macmanx my link in my personal email, on April 13, and asked a couple of other questions, including the unresolved one about the upward-sliding content of the CSS Stylesheet editor in Chrome 7. Since then I sent three follow-up queries about an answer, but have not gotten any reply. I rechecked just now, and this same question was addressed a couple of years ago: I need to tell readers to right-click to “save link as”, which actually downloads the .mp3 file, not just its web address… Not all of them are going to know this, and neither did I… Maybe a note to clarify this could be added to http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/download-links/.

  • Which email address did you send it from, and what did you send it to?

    The most recent support ticket that I can find from you was April 5, and that was resolved.

    Um… it seems I sent it to <(email visible only to moderators and staff)>… Peccavi! I thought it was a private way to give you a link to my still-private site. Sorry bout that… they were very nice gentle follow-ups really.
    Still concerned about the sliding CSS Stylesheet Editor (other thread), and also about one font/size change I need to make to Chateau but can’t. Should I start another thread for that one?
    Thanks macmanx… <:-{

  • It looks like we’re already helping you on the sliding editor, but there’s been some silence. I’ll see if I can get some eyes back on that.

    For the Chateau issue, would you please create a new support request for that?
