  I have worked with this type of blog before but for some reason my brain aint working – where do I place my widgets?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  dashboard -> appearance -> widgets
  choose the ones you want, (and which sidebar you want them in, if applicable), save changes.
  Note, once you add a widget of your own, the default set will disappear so you will have to add them again if you want one of them.
