Hemingway Rewritten header images
-
Hi there,
I’m trying to figure out my header images in Hemingway Rewritten. The header recommended size is 1280 x 416. Is there a way I can enable higher resolution images? I’ve tried simply uploading bigger ones, but they are always compressed or cropped by the theme and look awful. This isn’t 2006, most monitors are much larger than 1280 across. Can I set the header size to be different?
Site is http://www.playcrashclub.com
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @prettygreatphil!
Hemingway Rewritten uses a set width, as you’ve noticed. Because of the way this is built into the theme, it isn’t something you’ll be able to change.
Another factor to consider, is that the header on Hemingway is built to work as more of a background image than an actual logo. A theme that features a logo might work better, as that will always display the full image (narrower screens will cause part of your image to disappear on Hemingway Rewritten).
Logos are often smaller than Header Images – so a theme with a large logo, like Plane might be a good bet. It has a similar layout to Hemingway Rewritten, and features a nice large logo size :)

Hi Chad, thanks so much for your help! Good to know how Hemingway was designed, possibly best to go with a different theme. Are there any other similar themes you might recommend?
Is there a guide to changing themes and what one might need to consider before doing so? I know it has a decent ability to swap, but I assume plenty will need to be reworked to fit properly with the new one.

My pleasure!
Big Brother is another two column blog styled theme that has a large logo, that one might be good to check out :)
You can also test some of the themes on this list – the logos on some will be smaller than what you likely have in mind, but it’s a good starting point:

As for switching themes, you are correct, there will be some items that need to be adjusted for each theme. These can include theme specific settings, as well as widgets (different themes use different widget areas).
If you find your widgets are missing, and want to retrieve them after a theme switch, you can use the WP Admin menu to grab them. Handy if you have widgets with specific settings that would take a lot of time to recreate!
First, visit your site – then add /wp-admin to the end of the address and load that page.
When it comes up, look under the left hand menu for Appearance > Widgets. At the bottom of that page you should see lists of inactive widgets and sidebars, if there are any :)
