Hemingway (something): Rich, could we please …

    … do the same here as with Newsy (which I have now finally abandoned, in spite of the frightful cost, because it’s totally non-responsive) in terms of the vertical margin either to the right of the content or the left of the sidebar … whichever ?
    Hope you rested and refreshed, or you will grind to teeth to a powder.

    Well, outline things (a few at a time) and let’s get started. The line between content and sidebar might be tricky with the way the theme is designed, but I’m sure we can come up with something that works.

    Would like to have a vertical division that’s the same as the horizontal division between widgets in the sidebar – the thicker one.
    I had a go at it using the coding for Newsy and adjusting to meet Hemingway’s content width, but nothing appeared. I wasn’t a bit surprised – it was just a thought …

    Rich …? Have I slipped through the cracks again ? Makes me laugh, the thought of that: they’d need to be pretty large cracks …

    No worries, you have not slipped through anything. I was just busy today with family and home duties. More of that on Sunday as well.

    Let’s start with this, which limits thing to the width that the sidebar is actually on the side. Once the width gets down to 800px, the borders disappear. I also added a border on the top of the widget area in the footer since the vertical between the sidebar and content looked funny just ending in mid air – so to speak.

    @media screen and (min-width: 801px) {
        .site-main {
        border-right: 4px solid rgba(238, 238, 238, 0.9);
        margin-right: 27.1%;
        padding-right: 30px;
    }
        .site-content .widget-area {
            border-left: 4px solid rgba(238, 238, 238, 0.9);
            padding-left: 30px
        }
        .widget-areas {
            border-top: 4px solid rgba(238, 238, 238, 0.9);
        }
    }

    Oh, and on the CSS I give, always add it at the very end of your existing CSS as that is where I put it when I work things out, and if you put it up higher, there might be some unintended conflicts pop up.

    I made the line just a little darker than the originals between the widgets and posts. If you want them the same, change the 0.9 to 0.5.

    Thank you, you marvellous bloke ! I do apologise for nagging you on the weekend. I lost track of what day of the week it is: easy to happen when you live alone.

    No worries, as they say. :)

    We do. Yer a fast learner.
    That, or I repeat myself a lot. [grin]
