Hero Title and Hero Content won’t display

  • Unknown's avatar

I am using the Gateway template and the Hero Title and Hero Content won’t display. The Site Title and Tagline work, but nothing related to the Hero text under the Homepage Template category. I need to this to work so I can create a call to action button that links to a Mailchimp landing page to work as a mailing list.

  • Hi there,

What’s the page or post you’re working on? Also, what is the ” Homepage Template category” you’re referring to? Where exactly are you seeing this?

Does the blog not display at the bottom of my post? Hopefully this works

I’m using the Gateway theme, and also referencing the Gateway guide, but still no luck. You’ll see what I’m seeing under the Homepage Template section of the guide.

I’ll try attach an image to show what I’m looking at.

  • Hi there,

By default your WordPress site is set up to show your blog posts as your “homepage”

But to use the custom layout of this theme you will first need to manually create a homepage (the blog can be on another page if you wish) so here are the steps:

    1. Create a new page to be your homepage
    2. In the page settings on the right, set it to use the “home page” template – screenshot of the setting here
    3. Publish the page
    4. In the Homepage Setting in your site customizer, set the new page you created to be the official homepage of your site

This homepage you create will now correctly show the template options you set previously. Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

    Awesome, thanks so much!

My only issue now is that I want to use this as a blog, and have no real use for a static homepage, as I want the “homepage” to be the latest blog posts. But I want the hero button to be visible at the top to encourage people to join the mailing list.

Is it possible to have the Hero text with the button visible above the blog posts?

I noticed “posts” seem to go to the homepage now, but only display as titles at the bottom that you can click on. Is there a way to make the blog a separate page? I can’t seem to find an option to add posts to a specific page. I’d like a page that displays all my blog posts (images too) without having to click on them as you scroll down. Is this possible?

The Hero section only appears on the static front page with this theme, but you can use the Blog Posts block to display your posts on that page as well:

    https://wordpress.com/en/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/blog-posts-block/

Note that the two posts appearing at the bottom of the front page is how this theme displays Featured Posts. In the Customizer, under Featured Content, you can set a special tag – by default this tag is “featured”. If you add that tag to any post, it will appear at the bottom of the front page like that, for up to three posts. If you don’t tag any posts, the three most recent appear instead.

There’s no way to disable this featured content section on the front page, so keep that in mind when deciding whether to add a blog posts block to the front page, or going with a separate blog page instead (see below).

To have the featured post display an image, you need to add a featured image to the post – your posts currently have images added to the post content, but they’re not set as featured images, and that’s why the front page isn’t showing them:

If you prefer a separate blog page, you’re halfway there already – I see you have a blank page titled Blog already published.

Next, go to Appearance ->Customize ->Homepage settings, and select that page under the Posts Page heading. Save, and you’re done. All new posts you publish will automatically appear on that page.

Under Content Options in the Customizer you can control whether those posts will display in full or only an excerpt, and whether or not the featured images should be visible or not on the Blog page.

Awesome, that works for me, thanks Kokkieh!

I took your last suggestion with the Homepage settings option, I didn’t realize that. I think that pretty much answers all the questions I have. Now I can prep this blog and get it ready to go live.

    Thanks for the help everyone!
