Hexa theme RTL in editor

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi

I’m using the Hexa theme in my RTL blog, and in the editor, when I create lists (both ordered and unordered) I don’t see the bullets/numbers because the margin given to lists is a left-margin, whereas in RTL the margin should be right. In the post itself the lists appear correctly because the correct margin is given in rtl.css.
It seems that editor-style.css doesn’t support RTL in the same way that rtl.css does.
Is there anything that can be done about that?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I installed Hexa theme on one my WordPress.com sites, enabled Arabic on both the blog settings and account settings.

I experimented with what you explained, and it looks like the bullets show up just right.

Here is an image of the bullets in post editor. https://cl.ly/oa70

Here is an image of the bullets in the actual post view. https://cl.ly/oZnx

As you can see, the bullets show up just right.

To clarify, can you make sure that you have selected your RTL language on both account settings page (https://wordpress.com/me/account) and the blog settings page (https://wordpress.com/settings/general)?

Let me know after trying this, or if you have further questions.

Thank you very much for your swift reply.

I’m sorry I didn’t emphasize that I’m using the Classic editor and not the Gutenberg editor. I prefer the Classic because it applies editor-style.css, allowing the edited post to look like the front end post.

It is in the Classic editor that the problem occurs.

  • When you say Classic editor, I guess you are referring to the WordPress.com Calypso editor. Because, Gutenberg editor is not available for everyone yet. It is planned for release in WordPress 5.0.

Gutenberg editor is only for those who use this WordPress plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/gutenberg/

Unless you are using this plugin on your site, you are referring to the Classic editor (AKA WordPress.com Calypso editor)

To reiterate, the problem does not seem to be happening for me, on my WordPress.com Calypso editor. Can you share a screenshot of the error as it happens on your computer? You can use a tool like cloudapp.com to upload the screenshot and share the link.

I am right here if you have questions.

Thank you very much for your ongoing help.

I’m referring to the editor found in the admin area (https://lea841.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php).

Here is a screenshot of the editor. You can see the bullet icon is on, but no bullets appear in the editor:

And here is how it looks on the front end:

    Am I clearer now?

  • Hi –

    To be clear …

The bullets are working on the front end but not in the editor?

Have you tried to create this post via My Sites > Posts ?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, the bullets are working on the front end but not in the editor.

If I create the post via My Sites > Posts the bullets do appear, but the rest of the style doesn’t look like the front end at all – the font-family, font-size, color, background-color – are all different. That’s why I prefer the editor in the ap-admin area.

Could it be that I should post this on the theme support forum and not in the WordPress.com forum?

  • leaco, thanks for sharing the screenshots.

leaco and lizkarkoski, I tested it on my WordPress.com site’s Calypso editor and the wp-admin editor. I can confirm this is happening with me too.

The bullets are visible when I am writing on a RTL WordPress site on the WordPress.com Calypso editor and its published output.

The bullets are not visible when I am writing on the same RTL WordPress site on the wp-admin post editor and visible on its published output.

    Hope this helps, Liz.

  • Hi –

The bullets are showing for me in both wp-admin and the new editor.

Please let me know which browser version you are using and what language you are testing the posts with.

  • Google Chrome, latest version. Latest version of WordPress. Arabic language. Hope this helps.

  • Unknown's avatar

Firefox 57 (latest version), Hebrew language.
    Thank you both

  • Thank you both. My hunch is that it has to do with the language. I am going to try and replicate and will report back here later on.

  • This issue seems to be specific to the Hexa theme. There, when I write in Arabic, I am able to replicate the missing bullet points in wp-admin. In addition, they seem to act odd in the new editor as well. When I try on other themes though, they come through. Because of that, I am going to file this as a theme specific issue internally.

For now, my best suggestion would be to try another theme if the bullets are integral to the posts. I’m not able to give a time frame on a fix.

    Hi Liz

Thank you very much for looking into the issue and filing it internally. I really like the Hexa theme and would prefer not to change it. Would it do any good if I opened an issue on their support forum? Although it looks as if the theme isn’t really developed anymore – its last update was 6 months ago and so was the last issue on the support forum.

    Thanks so much
    Lea

  • Hi Liz, thanks for getting and filing it internally.

In addition, they seem to act odd in the new editor as well.

If it helps, I am not seeing this issue with the WordPress.com Calypso editor. Thanks.
