Hey ! I lost a post
-
Went through previous questions on the forum. I am very new user of wordpress. I lost a very long post and I don’t have it anywhere. I had published it as well. Went back to edit one word and boom, the screen went blank and I got a blank page. Can anything be done about it? Please help!

If you do have a post or page that appears to have sailed off into cyberspace you may get lucky. Perhaps it did get into the database. Look in your admin section to see if it was saved as a “draft” or as a “private” post (or page).
* -> Dashboard -> Manage -> Posts (or Pages)
* Next look for the -> Status button and click it.
* The drop down menu choices are:
* Any, Published, Draft and Private.
* Select “Any” and “Any” date and then click “Filter” and look for your post.
* Perhaps you will get lucky and find it or perhaps not. -
I don’t see the private option in my status drop down menu. I had checked before as you said ……….post doesn’t exist, just the title.

This happens from time to time, and it can be due to any number of reasons from a loss of internet connection, to a internet network problem, to a wordpress server problem. The only real way to keep it from happening is to use an offline blog editor which will save your posts to your hard drive. The beauty of this is that you always have a copy on your hard drive as a backup.
Timethief put together a great post on her wordpress resource blog on offline editors with links to all of them if you are interested:

If it doesn’t show up in manage > posts, then it didn’t get onto their servers, for whatever reason. Sorry, I’m sure that is not what you wanted to hear. One way to make sure you are safe is before hitting the “save or save and continue editing button is to select everything in the post and then copy it to your clipboard (ctrl-a windows or cmd-a mac). That way if it disappears, you can past it back in to notepad, or back into the wordpress editor.
The best solution is one of the free offline blog editors.

Do the select all and copy to clipboard thing each time before you hit save just in case.
Do check out the free offline editors. I’ve been using one for a year, and since then have never lost a post do to a wordpress or internet glitch.

this happened to me last night and I freaked! LOL…. What I did was hit my “back” button on my browser until I saw it – quickly copied it. I tried to continue after hitting the “back” button on my browser but it wouldn’t take.
Now I actually have 2 drafts of the same thing… is there a way to get rid of those two drafts?

Go to manage > posts, find them and then at the right end of the line, click delete and it will go bye-bye.

You might also, if it had already been published, find it on a search engine, as a cached version of the post. Try Google, sure, but also try Yahoo.com; I’ve had very good luck with them.
