Hi I am wanting to upload a word press theme I downloaded to keep

because it was the only one I found that went with what my site is about it is called The Universe ,it is no longer among the themes , I am wondering why I can’t have it, Regards Rosalie Muir of The Crystal Gateway

Hey there,
It sounds like you are trying to install a third party theme for a self-hosted WordPress.org blog. Third party themes only be uploaded on WordPress.com if you have the Business Plan Upgrade:
https://wordpress.com/business/
They are usually used for WordPress.org installs which run on different software.
If you do not want to go with the Business Plan but want to stay with WordPress.com, the good news is that WordPress.com has hundreds of available themes that you can activate (many for free), and they are found under Appearance > Themes

I didn’t think I was on a upgraded plan, I am only signed up for the basc plan so how does that happen? & what do I do to change things I have only just started ?

You’re not on an upgraded plan. I was mentioning that the theme you have can only be used with WordPress.com if you purchase the Business Plan. Otherwise, you will need to go the self-hosted route if you want to use the theme for your site. With the free/basic plan, you currently will be unable to use the theme.

Is that the address of the site you need help with?

https://crystalgateway.wordpress.com this is the one however the site will be changed I guess because I own a domain name & that is another issue I am going through at the moment as well, oh dear what Have I started here I usually do ok but I decided to give it a go doing things a bit more professionally but it sure is hard for a little lady lol ,Cheers roseashm

What is the domain name?
The reason I asked about a possible other website is because in your other thread, you mentioned that you paid something and that the plan you signed up for is “StartUp.”

My domain name is http://www.thecrystalgateway.org & because of everything going wrong I haven’t saved much etc this, I missed saving other ones Chers roseashm

OK- your current site on your domain looks like it was built with a site builder (webs.com).
The bottom line is that if you haven’t yet, start by reading the support guide that Darnell linked to earlier about the differences between the fully hosted WordPressdotcom (where we are) and the WordPress software. https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Understanding those differences and understanding what your website needs are will help you decide where you should set up your new website. (This goes beyond theme choice.)
If you decide to set up your new site on WordPressdotcom and want to use your custom domain name here, you will still need to upgrade to one of our available Plans. https://wordpress.com/pricing/
Also as Darnell mentioned, if you have your heart set on using the theme you downloaded elsewhere, you’ll only be able to do so if you upgrade to our Business Plan. ( Otherwise, give us a link to that theme and we’ll try to help you find something similar in our Theme Showcase https://wordpress.com/themes/ )
I realize this is long and confusing, but I hope the above replies will help you decide where you should set up your new site.
(I’m still somewhat confused about what you’ve paid for and to whom, but you should have a receipt for your payment.)

Hi justjennifer you asked what I have actually paid for by my receipt, it is a Siteground Webhosting StartUp Plan, does that make more sense, I still am under WordPress.com, Cheers Roseashm

SiteGround is a completely different web hosting service and not connected with WordPressdotcom (where we are).
For questions about getting up and running on SiteGround, please contact their support directly. https://www.siteground.com/support
Once you install the WordPress software on your SiteGround site you will be able to upload the theme you have downloaded. For information on how to do that and how to connect your existing domain to that site, please ask SiteGround support for assistance.
After you install the WordPress software there, you can learn about using the WordPress software at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page and find help in the forums at https://wordpress.org/support/ If you don’t have a username on those forums, you can register one on that page.
