Hi, I have been trying to add a ‘donations’ button from Pay Pal as a sidebar widget. I think I am doing everything as I should, but the button won’t appear and all that appears is the text. Help?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Eugene,

To add a PayPal button, you can follow our PayPal guide. You’ll need to use the exact steps in that guide, because some other code for PayPal buttons won’t work here at WordPress.com.

If you get stuck with any of those steps, or if the button still doesn’t work for you, please let me know!

    Hi Rachel
Thanks for your help, but it didn’t work. All I see on my site is the title and the coding text but no donate button. It seems to fall apart at Step 3 because there is no text that I can see in the Text Widget box to insert my code from PayPal into.
I hope that makes sense to you.
    Thanks again,
    Eugene

    Hi Eugene,

Just to back up a step, can you make sure you’re getting the Email link (rather than other PayPal code) mentioned in step #8 in the Get PayPal Button Code guide?

Once you have that link, you can replace the text YOUR-LINK-HERE in the code below with the link you got from PayPal. Then, paste that code into your text widget:

    <a href="YOUR-LINK-HERE"><img src="https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_US/i/btn/btn_buynow_LG.gif" alt="Buy Now Button" /></a>

Please let me know if you have any questions about that process. :)

    Hi Rachel,

Again, thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.

It was the first time I ever saw that code that you told me to insert the email info from Pay Pal into. I did that and I got a button, but I got a Buy Now button as opposed to a Donate button.

I tried to replace “Buy Now Button” with “Donate Button” in the code above but it still said Buy Now on my site, so I removed it.

Is there another code I could try that would lead to donations?

    Thank you again!

    Eugene

Hi Eugene! If you would like a Donate Button, you would need to use the following code:

    <a href="YOUR-LINK-HERE"><img src="https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/btn_donate_LG.gif" alt="Donate Button" /></a>

Again, you’ll want to follow the steps listed in this guide to get the specific link. Then, replace YOUR-LINK-HERE with the actual link. Can you give that a try?

Thank you, Jeremey. Finally, success. After three days I finally have a donate button on my site. Thanks to you and Rachel, I really appreciate the help. Not that I’m expecting to get rich, but every little bit helps, I find.
Take good care and thank you again!

    Eugene
