Hi I have set up a wordpress.com account

Hi I have set up a wordpress.com account for someone else because she is blind and I am trying to use her domain name titania-music.com which she owns using the domain mapping feature and the free account for life but when I try to connect her domain it asks for Let’s give your site an address, which I choose violin music as keywords it comes back to the same page and won’t create a site. What am I supposed to enter in the field, Lets give your site a name? This is so confusing and frustrating. Why won’t it create a site with the info I am putting in. She owns her own domain name so why can’t we use it with the domain mapping?

  • Hi @titaniaviolin,

The domain mapping feature is available only in Premium and Business plans. I hope the new account you created for your friend also has a premium plan.
If that is not the issue, you can once try to register this from a different browser to see if the same thing is happening.

Please reach out if the issue is still not resolved.

  • Hi – YES, you can map a domain with the personal plan. To do that, add the plan to the account first. Go here https://wordpress.com/pricing/ choose the personal option, submit payment and check out. After that, you’ll find it listed at https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/

Once that happens you can go to My Sits – Domains – Add and connect the domain via mapping. See here:

Write back to me here with any additional questions about getting this set up. We’re always happy to help.

  • When setting up the account you’ll need to register a free site address that ends in .wordpress.com. That is what the prompt is asking you for. It can be anything, no one will see it outside of your account once the other domain is mapped.
