Hide a page from the search engines

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi everyone,

I would like a page to be visible only to people who have the url. This means it should not appear on search engines, including the one on WordPress.com.

I already hid it from the navigation with a custom menu but I need it to be impossible to find with a search engine.

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. In Settings > Privacy, you can select to have your entire site visible for search engines, or nothing visible. There’s no “In-between”. Doing that would require the ability to edit the “robots.txt” file for search engines, which we cannot do here at WordPress.com.

How about setting a password-protected page?

Thanks for taking the time to reply. A password-protected page would not work from me. In fact what I am trying to do is to set up a page especially for people I have Streetpassed with my Nintendo 3DS, and the personal message space on the system is very short, just enough for only the shortened url of the page.

I guess I will have to stick with this version and just hope not too many people will find it.

    Thanks again!

You’re welcome. Another solution would be to create an additional blog with the “Search engines blocked” option.

This is a great idea, however my goal is also to bring people to discover my blog.

    Thank you again.
