Hide Comment Box on State Home Page for "Manifest" theme

    Hi there!

New to WordPress from Blogspot, and am loving the format/workings of it. However I’ve been stuck for some time with trying to rid my Manifest Theme of the reply box. I’ve been struggling to get rid of the comment box on the static home page of my new blog, as well as on another non-static page. Read basically every other forum but nothing seems to work for me. Anyone know more about Manifest, or how I can get rid of reply area?

    Thanks so much in advance.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can turn it off on a post by post and page by page basis in the post or page editor from the “discussion” module. If it does not appear down below the text area in the editor, go to the top right of the screen and click the “screen options” button and activate it. Turn off both comments and trackbacks.

You can also turn them off globally (for all new posts or pages) by going to settings > discussion and disabling comments and trackbacks there.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I’ve unchecked everything in the Discussion Settings to be sure, and unchecked comments in the separate pages editor screen options (I don’t see a box/text for “trackbacks,” just sharing/page attributes/discussion/comments/etc.) but the reply comment area is still present and visible.

Maybe the Manifest theme doesn’t have the option of hiding such a feature?

    Thanks again for your help.

You have to go the “screen options” tab at upper right in the editor page and activate the “discussion” module.

Hello – I have the same problem with WordPress – i’m using Vigilence theme – but despite having followed Sacred Path’s instructions the comment box and ancillery texts such as ‘No comments yet’, Leave a Reply, Notify me of follow-up comments via email (button) are all still on the pages.

Admin page top right hand corner click “screen options” and select all modules.

The main Discussion settings page for setting up defaults for comments is here > Settings > Discussion

You can override default settings on any individual post or page for future comments by enabling or disabling them in the Discussion module. This will not remove the “comments closed” or similar phrase that appears when you disable comments. To do that requires CSS editing experience and an annually renewable custom design upgrade.

For disabling the ability of visitors to subscribe to comments see this support documentation entry and do the reverse ie. remove the checkmarks and save. Settings > Discussion and ensure that both Comment Reply Via Email and Subscribe To Comments are disabled:

    Thank you both so much(!!!)

Don’t know why I couldn’t figure this out before ;/…

This worked after I activated the “Discussion” module and was then able to unclick the comment option below.

    Thanks again.

In wordpress.org at any rate you can do this very easily
Just do one page at a time –
    click on quickedit
On the right you will see a checkbox for ‘allow comments’
    uncheck the box and update

Thanks for posting that, yes, you can do it through quick edit here as well.

I have disabled everything comment related in discussion and in the individual edit of each page and the comment box is still there on my home page in Manifesto theme…? Is there anything else I can try??

Open the page in the editor called “home” and turn comments and trackbacks off.
