Hi there – It looks like all the likes and comments are off for your site now. Did you figure this out? :)
-
Hi – thanks for the reply.
No, i didn’t figure it out. I got so fed up i hid the blog!
I’ve tried editing in the post with screen options and also the settings reading option to show comments for only 7 days but still no joy. It seems to have worked on one post but not the last two. Surely this should be fairly simple??
Any info very welcome! -
Hi Helena – You need to uncheck the first three boxes on Settings->Discussion here, or at least uncheck “Allow people to post comments on new articles” :
https://helenamallett.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-discussion.phpThat will apply to all new posts/pages going forward. You’ll still have to remove them individually the way you were doing before for any posts or pages that you’d already published before you changed that setting. Does that fix things? :)

Hi eurello
Yes i think so in that i was in the right place, although i’m still unsure why the close comments after 7 days doesn’t work.
I only (micro) blog very occasionally though, so no worries and thank you very much for your input. -
Hi Helena – That option should work for posts older than seven days, but it won’t turn off comments on new posts. Currently, you do not have that box checked.
Also, currently you still have comments enabled. You need to uncheck this option:

Hi eurello
I’m happy to have/enable comments on new posts but would like to close them after 7 days.
I’ve re-ticked the relevant box to do this so we’ll see what happens!
Thanks again. -
Hi Helena – Ah, ok. Now I understand. If you look at one of your older posts, you’ll see that at the bottom of the comment thread, the message “Comments are closed” appears and it’s no longer possible to leave a new comment:

Hi eurello – yes but it still shows that there were 6 comments – with the number 6 top right above the blog. Maybe you can’t delete this?
Anyway overall WordPress is fantastic and tbh i don’t even blog much so thanks very much again for all your help. -
Hi Helena – Closing comments on older articles just means that after 7 days, no one can leave a new comment on a post. But it doesn’t delete or remove the comments that are already there.
If you want that, you’ll need to just go back manually and remove the comments from old posts. I’m not entirely sure why you would want to do that, though? Maybe if you describe a bit more what your overall goal is, I might have a better suggestion. :)
