I’m wondering if there’s a way I can select certain posts to not appear on the main listing w/o setting them to private. I’d like them to be accessible via link or search, but not on the main page. I see a bunch of ways to do this that involve plug-ins or accessing the functions.pho file, but I’m on a free account so I don’t have access to those things.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

    Hello! 👋🏼

I suggest creating a custom blog posts page by following this guide:

    WP
Create a Separate Page for Blog Posts

While the default posts page is easier to set up, creating a custom posts page is a great option if you want to customize the look of your separate blog posts page.  This guide provides a couple of options that you can use to create a custom blog page for your website. Create a Custom Blog Page Start by creating a new page. You can add all the blocks you need to customize your blog page

You can then add a specific tag to the posts you don’t want included (e.g., hidden) and configure the Blog Posts block to exclude them (via the Blog Posts block):

    WP

Use the Blog Post block to insert a list or grid of up to 100 blog posts (or pages, testimonials, or projects!) on any page. You can choose to show content based on category, author, or tag, display featured images or excerpts, change the text color, and more. Add the Blog Posts BlockBlock ToolbarBlock WidthViewsMedia LocationImage ShapeBlock SettingsStylesDisplay SettingsFeatured Image Setti

Give it a try and let us know if this helped 😊

    Thanks.

Can I do this with the block on the main page (can’t seem to)? Or would I need to replace the default block with a blog posts block on the main page and then do it?

I just went ahead and replaced the block that listed blog posts on the index page (from the original theme) with a Blog Posts block. Actually, I did two: one for the post I have pinned currently and then one below that which hides posts I’ve tagged “hide”. The page design has changed a bit as a result, but I think it looks better. It’s unltdricepudding.wordpress, com if you want to see.

    Thanks for your help

    Hi there!

If you open the Site Editor (My Site → Appearance → Editor), you will see that it is actually using the Blog Posts block. So you can edit that block to exclude specific tags or categories.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi there!

That sounds good, taking a look at unltdricepudding.wordpress.com and the editor for your home page, I can see what you’ve done there – using one Blog Posts block to display your pinned post, and another to display everything except the ‘hide’ tag was a great idea!

It looks like you’re all set in this case, but if you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to let us know any time.

I’m having a problem, it’s only slightly related to my original post, but I figure I’ll ask here anyway.

For some reason the blog post block is not adding my most recent post. I’ve since added a second block that specifically shows the most recent post, but it was not showing up before I did that (I know that it won’t show a post that’s already displayed on the page). I’m hoping to figure out what I”m missing so I can just have an updating blog post block in the future. (I am not using the tag that would hide the post, already triple checked that I didn’t somehow do that by accident.)

Sure thing. When I look at the site what I see is all of your posts published on the front page. But from the sounds of things, you’d like to only show the 1 most recent post at any given time in that space. Is that correct?

Rather than using the blog post block which is what is set up now, you want to use the latest post block.

    Not exactly.

At the moment, I have two blog post blocks. The first one is set to show only the latest post (as specified by name in the block settings). The second one shows the rest (save for some hidden posts).

What I want is to just use the second block, but when I do, the post from the first block doesn’t show up. I’m aware of the restriction that a blog post block won’t show a post already displayed on the page, but for some reason even w/o the other block it won’t show up. I only added it as a (hopefully) temporary fix to get it on the page.

So I’m trying to figure out why the post that’s currently my most recent does not show up in the blog post block.

Slight update. I added a new post today and removed the blog posts block that showed just “Everything happens when nothing does” to see what would happen. That post now shows up in the blog posts block, but my new most recent post “a slice of fried the gold” does not. In the meantime I’ve restored a blog post block that displays just that post.

It seems like the blog posts block I have just isn’t showing whatever my most recent post is. Any thoughts as to what I might be doing wrong there?

    Hey there,

Many thanks for reaching out with that extra information!

Have you tried showing these posts in these post blocks, via categorisation? Whereby you dictate which blocks show which posts via different categories.

I hope this helps as a theory!
