  You can password protect posts https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-visibility/ and pages https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-visibility/. You cannot password protect a whole site. You can make the site either public or private and add official users. To change blog visibility to Private go to Dashboard > Settings > Reading scroll to Blog Visibility and choose option 3.   You must be logged in under the exact same username that registered the site to be able to access the site. The Admin login link to the dashboard for every blog hosted by wordpress.COM is:

  http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

  *Replace NAME_OF_BLOG in that URL with the actual name of your blog.

  I recommend bookmarking that link or memorizing it.
