Hide tags from front page
-
Hi,
The question has been asked before but according to what I read on the forum, some people managed to hide tags from the front page, some other said that it’s theme dependent.
I’m new to that and here’s my blog: http://nicolasroux.wordpress.com/
And I’m trying to hide the tags from my front page. How can I know if it’s possible with the theme I chose?
ThanksThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Is it better to just omit the tags entirely, then? Do they really help with the pages being found? I’m a new blogger and I’ve been entering dozens of tags but they obnoxiously take up huge space on my blog pages. What’s the deal with the upgrade? What do you get for it, how, is it worthwhile? Thanks!!!
My blog is

Yes, tags and/or categories help with your pages being found, if they are kept to a reasonable number (no more than a dozen per post). Adding 150 or so tags to a post, like you’ve being doing, helps with your pages being excluded, because you will be considered a splogger adding all sorts of irrelevant tags to attract visitors searching for practically anything. (Tags are supposed to be characteristic keywords cosely related to the content of a particular post; in what way do you think “tips” in general, “article” in general, “women” in general, “men” in general, “seek”, “find”, “allow” etc. etc. etc. are characteristic of a post on meditation?)
The CSS upgrade allows you to modify the appearance of your blog (e.g. change colors, fonts, dimensions) – including hiding some elements. If you don’t have experience in CSS editing, forget it.

Right… Consciousparentingblog asks this question; I give this reply; and next day consciousparentingblog publishes a post with 350 tags. Must be a record…

350 tags on a single post!
That’s the worst case of spamdexing I’ve every heard of.

I don’t think I would have the patience to type all those tags on my blog.
By the way, I’ve learned a lot about tags here. I used to do 15-20 tags until I spent some time here and now I’m down to 10 or less tags. My stats have increased dramatically as I’ve read and incorporated tips that I’ve picked up from this technical support group. There’s a lot that I picked up by reading and incorporated on my blog — such as tags, how many links on my page, number of posts to display, etc.

The aim ought to be to target the subject matter in any post dead on by using as few categories and tags as possible. Focusing only on accurate assignment of the least categories and tags required results in a flow of targeted readers to your posts rather than a flood of one hit wonders who produce a high bounce rate.
Targeted readers know what they are looking for. They have used search engines to locate posts that directly address the subject matter they are interested in reading. Moreover, targeted readers are far more likely to:
—- read more than one post when they visit;
—- become regular readers;
—- leave meaningful comments that expand your knowledge base;
—- become subscribers;
—- consider related link exchanges;
—- recommend your blog to their friends. -
It’s down to:
Tags: Law of Attraction, life, personal growth, inspirational, spiritual, relationships, love, energy, intuitive, aware, heart, coaching, interfaith, Sacramento, meditation, soul, Gratitude, grateful, harmony, beauty, God, self-growth, peace, wisdom, present, joy, self-help, conscious, heartful, family, meditate, Sage Taylor Kingsley, higher consciousness, sacred, mindful, mindfulness, enlightenment, season, now, time
So, you know, progress.

well, I guess that’s better but from what I understand, that still will eliminate her from having her posts show up on WordPress.
Here’s what I think – but only because I was in that same boat though I did not have near the amount of tags that she did. I thought tags was a way to increase visibility so I would use up to maybe 20 tags. I don’t think I got banned but only because I figured it out (from this tech site) before I was banned from showing up globally. I am now down to 10 tags/categories at most though I try and keep it about 8. I’m trying to eliminate the amount of links on my front page.
Bing was not indexing me and once I eliminated the amount of links on my front page, I am now indexed. Even though my tags were about 10-12, it brought up the links on my front page especially since I had 15 posts on my front page. I now only have 4 posts showing at a time and limit my tags to around 8. Once I did that, Bing started indexing me again.
I’m trying to simplify my blog as much as possible and it seems to be helping.

Now with older posts, what if I went back and deleted some of the tags to get down to the appropriate amount? would that increase the traffic on those older posts? Does that make sense? LOL

No, I don’t think it makes any difference. You could ask staff for a definitive answer tho.

@bats
If you edit and reduce the categories and tags you may increase the flow of targeted readers to those posts from the wordpress.com global tag pages, and decrease the flow of those who are following obscure categories and tags, thereby decreasing your bounce rate. -
