Hide the date + Meta of just one certain Entry

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey there, I got a wordpress.com-hosted blog with the old Ambiru theme. I can add custom css. I do not want to change the theme.

    The code I have a question on looks like this:

    <div id="post-39991" class="entry entry-1 post-39991 post type-post status-publish format-standard sticky hentry category-nyc">
    	<div class="entrytitle">
    		<h2><a href="https://mytest123.wordpress.com/2020/03/12/test0rpage/" rel="bookmark">📌 LIN-Update: COVID-19</a></h2>
    		<h3>March 12th, 2020 [<-THIS NEEDS TO DISAPPEAR]</h3>
    	</div>
    	<div class="entrybody">
    		<p align="center"><strong><span style="background:#ffcbcb;padding:2px;border-radius:0;text-align:center;"><strong> ++ CONTENT ++ CONTENT ++ CONTENT ++ CONTENT ++ </strong></span></strong></p>
    			</div>

    	<div class="entrymeta">
    	<div class="postinfo">
    		<div class="postedby">Posted by Author</div>
    		<div class="filedto">Filed in <a href="https://mytest123.wordpress.com/category/region/newyork/" rel="category tag">NYC</a></div>
    	</div>

    	<a href="https://mytest123.wordpress.com/2020/03/12/test0rpage/#comments" class="commentslink">6 Comments »</a>	</div>

    </div>

    I would like the date of this post to disappear. Also, if possible, I’d love the meta-area to be gone as well. Is that possible via css? If so, what to I have to do?
    Please note: I am talking about just this one post. Just one special post on my home page, which lists all recent postings. I saw some solutions but those were all for all posts, instead of just one.

    Thanks for helping!

  • Hi there,

    If you need to hide this just in one entry, yes, I’d recommend using CSS. Could you send a link to the site?

    Please note these forums are for the sites hosted and managed here at WordPress.com. For help with a site hosted somewhere else, you’ll need to use the forums for self-managed WordPress installations instead.

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

    Hey @supernovia,
    Thanks for that reply.

    Here’s an example:
    https://yenky0512.wordpress.com/

    Of you go on that website you see a list of entries (first one is titled “Cầu lớn Chương Hoa – Chín.” and dated “21/11/2018”). I would like to hide *that* date, but just for the first entry “Cầu lớn Chương Hoa – Chín.” and not for the “Cầu lớn Chương Hoa – Tám” (dated 26/09/2018) or “Giang Vân Bắc Độ – Tự Chương.” (dated 23/09/2018), ff.

    As I stated: I am a user of a wordpress.com-hosted blog. And I am looking for a css solution, that I have not found yet.

    All the best,
    -max

  • Hi Max,

    to be able to add custom CSS to that site you will want to upgrade it to plan Premium. It’s not possible to add any custom code to a site on a free plan.

  • Unknown's avatar

    huh? 🤔

    I said already:

    I got a wordpress.com-hosted blog with the old Ambiru theme. I can add custom css. I do not want to change the theme.

    I got that plan(!). I just posted clear and straight examples(!) with code and another Ambiru themed blog that’s built the exact same way.

    So once again:
    Is there a way to solve this via css? :-)

    -max

  • Good Morning –

    The site that has been listed, https://yenky0512.wordpress.com/, does not have any upgraded plans attached to it. Did you make a purchase already? If so, it’s under a different site and a different user account. The one that you’re writing to us from has never made a purchase.

    The premium plan features and cost are at https://wordpress.com/pricing/

    examples

    You guys, one more time: I have a premium plan. I posted examples of pages that use the same code, the same theme.

    My question was:

    I would like the date of this post to disappear. Also, if possible, I’d love the meta-area to be gone as well. Is that possible via css? If so, what to I have to do?

    — — —
    So here is a quick FAQ for staff members:

    Q: Does Max have a premium plan?
    A: Yes, as he stated in his initial posting, he does have it.

    Q: Is Max able to add custom css?
    A: Yes, as he stated in his initial posting, he cann add custom css with that plan.

    Q: Is Max’ blog hosted on wordpress.com
    A: Yes, as he stated in his initial posting, it is hosted on wordpress.com

    Q: Did Max ask a straight forward question about custom css and gave all that information earlier?
    A: Yes, he did in his first(!) and initital posting.

    Q: Does Max want to change his currently used (old) Amibru theme to another one?
    A: No, as he stated in his initial posting, he wants to keep Amibru.

    Q: Is https://yenky0512.wordpress.com/ Max’ website?
    A: No, as stated, Max uses that one as an example since it has the same theme and page structure.

    Q: But https://yenky0512.wordpress.com/ does not have a premium plan atteched to it?
    A: Yes, that might be the case. But: What does that change, since it is just an example(!)

    Q: But it’s another user account!?
    A: CSS is a language that’s not bound to users or accounts.

    Q: But that account and your account and that linked website have no upgradeplan!
    A: Yes, as stated earlier, those are just examples, that work with the same code/themes/structure. The one I am talking about has an upgrade plan.

    — — —

    I am unaware of the fact, that one can only receive answers on this board, if you post right away, what blog/site one is asking help for. If that is the case: My bad.

    Somehow I still hope to get an helpful answer to my initial question from my first post. I believe in you! =)

    All the best,

  • There is no premium plan under the account you’re currently logged in with.

    The site you listed https://yenky0512.wordpress.com is under a free plan.

    Which brings us to:

    Q: But https://yenky0512.wordpress.com/ does not have a premium plan atteched to it?
    A: Yes, that might be the case. But: What does that change, since it is just an example(!)

    CSS is not as general of a language as you think, it is incredibly specific.

    We need to see exactly what you want to remove on exactly the site you intend to remove it from in order to provider you with the right code.

    So, what is the URL of the site you’re trying to modify?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Oh, hey there! Thanks for that answer. You are now the fourth ‘staff’ member getting involved and not even touching the question. This is starting to get frustrating – just a little, but still frustratig though.

    So again: If I ask for code with A SPECIFIC EXAMPLE, I intend to get the code for THAT SPECIFICI EXAMPLE. I even asked especially for that code for that example(!). I am aware of that the code I asked for, will not be working on my blog but I am able to adapt it to my blog by myself — which I always planned to do.

    I just need a hint, b/c for some reason my attempts for some reason did not work out.

    So again:
    1) I provided a code example of an entry and later on even a blog that uses die Amibru theme.
    2) I said what I got. (Paid Plan, wordpress.com-hosted blog, Amibru-Theme)
    3) I asked a crystal clear question about that and I am still willing to answer further inquiries about my question — If there were any.

    -> All I got from you guys is several semi-related questions about 1) and 2) but no one even comes near my question.

    So maybe this helps:
    Let’s be hypothetical here:
    Let us assume that https://yenky0512.wordpress.com/ had a paid plan. What custom css would one need to implement/add to make the post date of just one entry (in this case the top one on the list; post-2846; title: “Cầu lớn Chương Hoa – Chín.”; posted on “21/11/2018”) make disappearo on the posts page (in this case the homepage)? An, adding to that, what would one have to do to hide the meta (comments, category, etc.) as well?

    I am confident, that four wordpress.com staff members will be and are able to find that one answer without asking for the fifth time for information this thread is just not about and/or is already provided. :-)

    #knockonwood & I believe in you!

    All the best,
    -max

  • As mentioned, we cannot give you a specific example for the code you want without seeing the site you want to use it on. CSS in many cases is specific to the site.

    Thus far, you have not provided the URL for that site.

    We’d love to give you what you’ve been asking for, but so far we have not received what we need to give you that.

    We need to see, specifically, the URL of the site you want to use the code on.

    Please simply provide the URL of the site you want to use the code on.

    You guys. Seriously?

  • You’ve already said that https://yenky0512.wordpress.com/ is a hypothetical site, not the site you intend to apply this on.

    If you want CSS code that we can guarantee will work for the site you intend to apply this on, we need to know the URL for the site you intend to apply this on.

    CSS in many cases is specific to the site.

    Just tell us the URL.

  • Unknown's avatar

    — Oh well. This does not look too outcome-oriented in here. —

    Again: I do not care, if the code will or will not work on the blog I intend to (later) use it on. Moneyquote:

    If I ask for code with A SPECIFIC EXAMPLE, I intend to get the code for THAT SPECIFIC EXAMPLE. I even asked especially for that code for that example(!). I am aware of that the code I asked for, will not be working on my blog but

    With an example or an hint I will be able to do it myself.

    Moneyquote:/strong>

    I am able to adapt it to my blog by myself — which I always planned to do.

    I also never asked for a “guarantee”?! (Prove me wrong!)

    I gave sample a code, later on an example site. I gave all the information one would need to solve this. (For some reason that did not keep you guys from asking me to provide that information again, and again.)

    I even “made up” a hypothetical example, b/c my question and examples were so unimaginable for you guys to even think about an approach.

    I even made clear that I would not need any final working code [for my blog], just asked for what one would need to implement.

    Instead of a solution, you guys – for some reason – just seem to cut through the bullshit. That is, to be honest, weird, and not really what I thought this forum is about? Or is it? o.O

    Leaving me with the question: Just why is it so hard to just give an answer to the initial question and help us to focus on more important things. :-)

  • Unknown's avatar

    Whoops there’s an < missing. I did not want to put all of that in . =)

  • Ok, here is how to hide the the date on https://yenky0512.wordpress.com/2018/11/21/cau-lon-chuong-hoa-chin/

    #post-2846 .entrytitle h3 {
        display: none;
    }

    As previously mentioned, I can only guarantee this will work for that specific post on that specific site.
