Hide the Site Title and Tagline using the 2014 them
-
This is my test blog for trying out features before implementing them in my main blog.
I’ve activated the 2014 theme, added a header image which is at the them recommended size of 1260 x 240 pixels.
The problem is the site title and tag line are appearing on the left hand side of the page making everything look really untidy.
Ideation and Intent which is the theme I am using on my main blog gives me the option to hide the site title and tag line when using a header image but I can’t see that option in 2014.
If I can’t resolve this problem, as much as I like 2014 I wouldn’t use it.
Any help appreciated.

I put Twenty Fourteen up on my test blog and you’re right there is no hide header text feature we can use at > Appearance > Header.
-
Yes it was the HDR images blog I was referring to. Do you know if there is a way to ask for it to be implemented? In its present state I wouldn’t use it.

What we can do is tag this thread for Themes Staff so you can request that be added. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Thanks for that. I had already ticked the notify of follow up posts. I don’t mind waiting if I can get a fix

Hi there, just wanted to let you know that I’m looking into this and will get back to you.

Hi there – this was actually a WordPress Core issue with Twenty Fourteen, in which the option had been intentionally removed. The developers have just over an hour ago decided to reinstate the option to hide header text in this theme.
I’ll let you know when the option has been ported back to the theme on WordPress.com. In case you’re interested in following the discussion:

Thanks for your patience.

You should now see the option to hide header text in Twenty Fourteen:

Thanks for waiting!

I’ve been out all day so just got round to testing. As you said the Header Text can now be hidden by deselecting the option to show Header Text in Appearance, Header, however that option only hides the header, not the Tag Line.
Now I don’t know if this is related but if I select Appearance, Customise, the option there is to Display Site Title and Tag line, or not, depending if you tick the box. However you can’t use the option because even if you change something on any of the menu choices displayed down the right hand side you cannot save.
Sorry to be a pain over this. Meanwhile I have activated 2014, but at the moment I have removed my Tag Line as it’s spoiling the look.

Hi Mike – this should now be fixed. Would you mind adding back your tagline and let me know if it’s hidden properly with either checkbox (Appearance > Header, or Customize > Site Title)? Thanks.

Hi sorry for the delay in replying. We had a major storm on the coast which cut off all telephones and broadband links since Thursday. It’s only just come on this morning so I will check and see if it has been resolved

Hello Kathryn
Just tested the site title and tagline. Everything now works as it should from either option. I can add or hide the site title and tagline.
Thank you for resoving this for me.

Oh dear – that sounds like a vicious storm!
I’m so glad the title and tagline are now working as expected, thanks for confirming. Enjoy the theme!
