Hiding auto-generated text in category title pages

Hello,
Is there a way to hide the auto-generated text “category archives:” from the category page title? All I want for the category title is the category name. Is there a way to do this? I’m using the Imbalance 2 theme. If this is a theme specific item, can you point me to a theme that does not do this?

Note that all CSS editing it theme specific and your are pointing to a thread on the Pilcrow theme while asking about Imbalance 2.

I don’t know if it’s theme specific or not, I provided the link to show what articles I had found, but didn’t quite answer the question. Also, I’m not quite ready to publish my site yet as I am still working issues like this one. The question I asked is a general one about wordpress.com and the theme Inbalance 2 that I am using. Yes, I have the custom CSS upgrade.

Now, looking at that page, is it possible to remove the text “Category Archives:” but leave “books”?
Alternatively, if that’s not possible, is there a way to hide the the entire category page title and insert another piece of h1 text that can function as a custom page title?

The code you provided does indeed hide the entire category name title.
But that’s not what I asked for. What I asked was it possible to remove part of the title or replace it with a custom line.

No, you cannot hide part of it. You could, using :before or :after and “content: “”; add to either the beginning or the end of what is there, but some older versions of IE would not recognize that addition so it would not show.

I’ll amend that a little. I can hide the category name and leave the “Category Archives:” there.

You can edit your categories in Posts > Categories and add their titles in the Description field. Then you can use TSP’s code to hide the actual category headings plus an additional code to style the descriptions:
.archive-meta p { font-weight:bold; font-size:150%; } -

All CSS editing is theme specific. This thread is focused soley on the Imbalance 2 theme for free hosted WordPress.com versions of that theme. The code has been provided above. If you are asking about a different theme then please create you own thread by clicking this link > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization Please also link your username to your blog. Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Website‘ select the URL for your primary wordpress.com blog and then save changes.Now every time you sign into the forum we can all click on your username and your blog will be linked to it. And every time you leave a comment on a blog your username can be likewise clicked and your blog can be instantly located.
