Hiding categories from the front page

  Hi,

  is there a way I can prevent posts that fall in to certain categories from being shown on the front page?

  My blog will cover lots of topics, but i really only want some things from appearing on the front page, whilst others will have to be browsed to specifically. How can i achieve this in WordPress?
