Hiding / Controlling Category linking on post header

    Hi

Can the Category list in WordPress.com Tarksi theme that appears on each blog post heading between the date and author be made to refer only the categories on my blog rather than drive traffic away to the wider wordpress community?

If this is not possible can i remove/ change the CSS to hide the categories appearing on a post (Although i would like the date and author to appear if possible)

    Many thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This is an extremely common question and the short answer is No.You can use iNove theme, which makes it an option, or you can use a theme which puts the global categories below your post instead of on top of it. Even with the paid CSS upgrade, usually you can make the global categories vanish but only by also vanishing things which are very important.

If it’s any consolation, they’re a great source of SEO, for techy reasons I won’t go into at length. They are HUGELY powerful.

Everything in the lines of text just below the line would go away including the date, tags/categories, author and the leave a comment link. It is all controlled under .post-metadata in the CSS. If you are OK with everything but the title going away, add ” display:none; ” to .post-metadata.

Also, you need to read this: http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/ .

    Hi,

Many thanks for your time both of you, I have paid for the CSS upgrade

If the categories are great for SEO I’ll get used to it and leave it as is

@sacredpath thanks for the link. indeed pasting the whole code in is what i’ve done. How can i undo the problems outlined in the post? I have no coding experience to really understand the many changes i made to the css through trial and error.

Also on an unrelated topic any thoughts on how to get the italicised caption to move closer to the image box (by about half a line) as in this post:

Chernobyl print selected for the Royal West of England Academy 157 Autumn Exhibition

Which is something i want to be able to on most posts

And if you can see any other beginners mistakes do let me know…

If you haven’t experienced any issues, and don’t have a lot of experience with CSS, for now I would leave what you have, but keep what is in the link I provided in mind for future work.

On the text description below the images, you might try using the image caption feature instead. Since you have the CSS upgrade, you can change the font of the caption if you wish. It should be under something like wp-caption. It will place the text closer to the bottom of the image. Right now apparently you are simply creating a “paragraph” below the image so it is taking on paragraph spacing.
