Hiding Feature Images in Child Pages
-
I am nearly incompetent when it comes to website construction so bear with me…all I want to do is hide the “feature image” at the top of my child pages.
If you see my portfolio page, there are feature images for each child page in the grid. I DO want the images to appear on the portfolio page as they look great, but once you click on the child page, the feature image appears at the top and I can’t move it or even write next to it. I do NOT want the image to appear here.
How can I get that image out of there? I’ve searched all over for information about featured images and cannot find a word on this issue. If I could at least write text next to it on the child page, then that would be fine, but everything I write appears underneath and leaves big spaces next to the image. It looks great on the portfolio page but horrendous after you click on it.
Please help. I’m really struggling with this.

You can try out and preview custom CSS before you buy as explained here. Using that as a guide, you can try out the following CSS, which will hide the featured image on your portfolio child pages.
.page-template-page-templatesgrid-page-php .entry-thumbnail, .page-template-page-templatesgrid-page-php .entry-content { display: none; } -
I should mention, that to be able to save and apply the above change will require the Custom Design upgrade.

Hi thesacredpath,
I’m afraid that code does not work. It takes all the featured images out. I want to keep them on the grid page, just do not want them duplicated on the page that is clicked on.
This code worked:
.entry-thumbnail {visibility: hidden;}
.grid-row .entry-thumbnail {visibility: visible;}
It takes the duplicated image out and leaves them where they are supposed to be on the grid page. However, it still leaves a huge blank space where the image used to be. Unfortunately, this huge blank space sits right above my content and is not right either.

The code I provided I worked on on the Business Writing sub page, perhaps I misunderstood what you were wanting, but the important thing is awesome job getting it taken care of. If you have any further questions, please let us know.
-
Thanks, it is not taken care of though. I’m still not getting it right. I can’t have huge blank spaces at the top of each page. Totally unprofessional.
At the moment, the current code in there is hiding the entry thumbnail on both the page and the grid page. Definitely not what I am trying to achieve. Please help, I’m nowhere near done with this.

Let me take a look. Visibility: hidden doesn’t remove the element from the page, so it still occupies space there. Let me go into your site and work on it in there.
-
Let me make sure I have an understanding of what you want. As an example, on the Business Writing page, you want to get rid of the image in the full-width section at the top and have just the title of the page there. Is that correct?
-
This is the current code in there:
.entry-thumbnail {display: none;}.grid-row .entry-thumbnail {display: initial;}
Apparently it works but I can’t see any images at all on my end. Why would this be?
-
Yes, that is correct. But I still want the featured image on the grid page of each parent.
It will be easier for you to scroll down to the Poetry Writing section as I’ve added featured images to all those pages. This I have not done in the other sections as yet, until I get this issue sorted out.

I’m not seeing any of the featured images. None at all, not on the grid or in the page itself. But my stepdad says he can see them.
-
So, you want the images to appear here: http://mandyschubach.com/portfolio/ but not after you click on one of the links there, such as business writing?
-
-
Yes. They must also appear on the separate grids within Business Writing and the others. But I do not want them to reappear after clicking on any of the links.
You’ll see a clearer example if we work in Poetry Writing.

See the link in my previous response for clearing your browser cache.
If the above is what you want, I’ve used the following, working directly in your customizer, and it seems to do what you wanted.
.page-child .attachment-motif-page-thumbnail, .page-child .entry-content, .page-child footer.entry-meta { display: none; }What I’ve done is to specifically target the child pages and the image at the top under the page title. I’ve also removed the entry meta div, which had no content but was occupying space.
-
I’m sorry. I just can’t see anything. I still see no images at all. I cleared my browser cache (saw the link a little late) in both my F12 Developer Tools and Safety options. Still nothing.
I can’t see your code in there either. I’ve put it in myself, but it doesn’t appear to be doing anything on my end.
Why can’t I see anything?
-
Okay, I cleaned out all other code and that works beautifully. It just seems to have ‘hidden’ all the content as well?
When I click on the link, it takes me to the next grid and when I click on that, my content has disappeared.
-
‘I’ve also removed the entry meta div, which had no content but was occupying space.’
I’m not sure what you mean by that?
