Hiding private posts and pages from search widget.

    Hi –

I’ve made a series of blog posts private using bulk edit, but the entries still show up if key words are typed into my website’s search box. The posts themselves are hidden (you get a ‘private post’ message in search) but I’d like to stop the search engine from ‘seeing’ private posts completely. I’ve found a few articles on how to do this by accessing the php file but I don’t have access to that or even to the CSS editor because this particular site is a regular (free) WordPress hosted site…

Is there any way I can change the behaviour of the search widget to ignore private pages, and/or a bit of html code I can add to the posts individually to hide them that way?

    Thanks :D

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi again @oddlyactive, If you are logged in as admin or editor, you’ll see those Private posts. Are you logged in to your account when you use the search or are you logged out? Try testing this either while logged out or by using an incognito or Private browsing window. If you log out, you might need to clear your browser cookies and cache (which will also log you out of anything else you are currently logged in to.)

Let us know how that goes.

    Thanks Jennifer…
Have just checked after logging out and all is good. I should have really tried that before posting but I’ve had a long day and it didn’t occur to me! Thanks again :D
